and pretty sure you cant add placeholder to slot. what is your end goal?

i want to use equations so that the material keeps changing slots

you can add more items and set a view requirement according to your equations/conditions. you can use those placeholders in the view requirement making sure it changes the slot whenever necessary

however i dont think its possible to directly use placeholders inside slot
