I would like to open the menu via an item but if I specify %player% or [player] it still doesn't work can someone help me there

FAQ Answer:

Player placeholder not working? If you are using a plugin which supports PlaceholderAPI, and the %player% placeholder doesn't work, then change it to %player_name% and download the player expansion.
Commands:
/papi ecloud download player
/papi reload

though if you want to open a DeluxeMenus menu from another DeluxeMenus menu, just use the openguimenu action
