I need some advice from the community here, is it still worth it to invest in hosting a minecraft server? Do players still join like they used to 2 - 3 years ago? By using the term "invest" I do not mean host a minecraft server to make a profit, if I were to start a server it would be to create a community and only accept donations/purchases to help pay the hosting and other things that benefit the server.

The only return that I would like is to have formed a community and to give me a place to practice my development skills.
My main concern atm is: Do people still actively play Minecraft as much as they used to and will the Minecraft community stay stable and strong for the next 2 - 3 years?
