Also, adding a referral system that rewards players for inviting new players is a nice way of doing it.
Having an incentive to return is another good feature. Daily rewards is a good example. With better rewards everyday. As well as frequent giveaways. You can use your server list MOTD to advertise these.
It then comes down to your content for retention. Also, it doesn’t happen overnight, don’t worry if you’re still hitting 0 players.
With vote sites, don’t just spam your server on all of them. A majority aren’t worth it. Stick to 3-5, and use the top ones (In order: .org, MCSL, MC-MP, PMC, and TopG) - A nice, clean, animated banner with a clean description is an added bonus.
Frequent content updates is a must. Rather do 1 small update per week and gradually add new features, than having a major update every month or so.

I asked a few days ago and got a pretty good response. However, I would like to get a second opinion.
After spending months working on the content and functionality of my server, I finally feel like it is at a point where it can happily house an active community.
The server has seen periods of activity where player counts reach 12+ frequently throughout a given month, but never anything more than this. Periods of activity were usually short lived (which I believe to be do to the curve of the server and too small of a tightly knit community).
Finally, for my question: What do you believe to be the best method of advertising your server? I am familiar with advertising slots and finding youtubers, but both of these methods seem risky considering how expensive they are.
Can anyone vouch for a particular method of advertising that they have found success with?

There are several variables that need stress testing. As once you save the changes you make, it now hotloads those changes instantly. I want to see what the dashboard can handle in temrs of displaying changes made by someone else logged into the dashboard as a diffrent user, also want opinions on ui tweaks and graphical changes that need to be made, and possibly some tests with latency and speed of read write between the new sql system and the dashboard
