The respective developer has a huge portfolio yet it's not his reputation in the game if he does something poorly for a client through fluent. It's my reputation and the team's reputation that gets hurt
so you have 2 choices:
- Lie to the clients, have poor representation and do false advertising. Blow your team's capabilities over the roof. Get server owners wannabees that won't have the players to even test your plugin in production. Most will be happy.
- Be honest, have to deal with all this stuff, be prepared to take over work they can't or don't want to complete, etc. Lose to the false advertisers since most wannabees don't have background checking skills and take anything for granted
aight, whichever one of us it is, you clearly still have strong feelings about them. Rather than tarnish their reputation even more, maybe pm them about it? Try to understand their reasoning

it's not that i have strong feelings about it, it's something that i've noticed with multiple freelancers. The example was given since all admins here have a good reputation.
It's not much you earn yet you have to deal with all this stuff. If you also want to have a custom bot or platform, then you also have to manage that. It's not that easy to be a mediator between 2 picky sides. You risk chargebacks, not the freelancers.
There's a lot of things that need done properly if you want a service team that's both fair and profitable for both parties, so I don't get why people mind the 15-30%

I get DMs almost daily from service teams saying I should join their Discord, and they'll give my first order a 75% off coupon, or similar. Now, that's another reason why people dislike service teams, their owners and advertisers shove their "company" down everyones throat.
I don't consider what I have as a service team, but, very seldom (if you'd even count what I did as advertising) do I even post about it (and our products), yet, I get DMs asking about our Paper fork, our plugins, how we do this, how we do that, setups, etc. - it comes down to reputation.

Service teams are not really catered to people like you. Generally once you build a strong reputation like you've done there's no necessity for somebody to represent you. That's what a service team can do for freelancers, and since many of them lack comuncation skills it can be beneficial for them.
Also, since many of them lack frequent comissions, it allows them to access more work quicker. More work also means you have the ability to filter out what you need to do and increase your pay / hour

- I get that. But, I can't justify a 20-30% cut. You also can't compare this to corporates, 90% of people in MC are hobbyists, and a $100 commission is a lot to them. Now, they must lose a large percentage? ~5% I can understand. What we do is similar, when we take on commissions (or, when devs just do our server work), we charge $30/hr, and I pay the devs $25/hr, which I think is incredibly fair (it's like over minimum wage), and we have 3 fulltimers (like $6,000/m) - other guys take it too far

the general idea is that the cut should be justified by what you provide. If you get a hobbyist used to earning 10$/hour and you manage to get him 30$/hour comissions, then your 30% will still end up to him earning twice more. It's all about knowing your team and knowing what each of them is good at.
Then you have to take into account other things like system development, etc. For example, if you have an automatic payment system and a reputation boosting system, then here goes more clients but also more work on your end as a team manager
Also, take coupons for example. You get 50% off your first purchase. That's money the team will pay off their cut while the freelancer gets what he is supposed to get.

Imo cuts are the most annoying part. Even if it's a small price or not you still feel the cut. When I was in a team someone took at 600$ commission and the team took 20% of that which means 120$. I understand that the team got stuff to pay for and such but getting paid 480$ for 600$ worth work piss you off even if you previously havent charged that much.

A team needs to advertise you properly and make clients pay you more for what you offer. Most people don't know how to negotiate and they lose due to that. A team can handle that for you and get you better prices.
Would a cut of 30% be justified if the team can also increase your payments by 60% by properly negotiating your skills?

so regarding DM, I refactored the entire config system the other day. Before the refactor, I had a ton of code to create the default menu configs. Now I load a few configs from the resources folder in the jar. Currently there are 5 menu files that I need to do. When the plugin is loaded the first time, these 5 menus will be generated and act as a tutorial for new users.
