for electricity, solution is switching to more sustainable and less co2 emitting energy sources such as nuclear, hydro, geothermal. Solar may also be worth it in deserts, but generally wind and solar are the energy sources that cover their co2 emissions the hardest.
for transportation, electric cars, which depend on point 2.
The largest issue is not in implementing, but in getting people to do it against their short term or medium term interests
