I am working for a large romanian server. We want to expand outside of Romania, but we know language is a big barrier that needs to be crossed. We were thinking of doing mass translation for all our server messages and "some" of our chat messages. We still have the issue of such translation probabbly costing in the thousands monthly, but we are working to solve that.

Generally, what's the barriers you see when playing on a server whose language (either player language or server language) you don't understand?

so generally the only valid option that won't annoy players is having some kind of translation system.

for chat messages, either only translate PM's or have something like "click message to translate"

channels is a decent idea but is super hard to convince players to use it. If you force it on them (or make it as a default), there will be empty chats. You could solve that by making some kind of load balancing system so if a chat is empty you are moved to the global one

but it would be awful to implement with minigames and all
