they do change some old unefficient implementation but they rarely differ from the default API.
either way i'd go and tell them your opinion. They're team is almost always active on IRC/discord so if you land them a message with valid arguments i think they'd take it into account

in my opinion paper is worse off when it comes to public plugin developers (as we need to support as much server software as possible to grow our possible client base), but it's really good for private development. Paper adds lots of interesting API
