#Mission: The Celestial Hand

Its done so you get less XP the highier you are
The difficulty is lower than the unlock level though.
So?
So why is the difficulty below the minimum level?
So you get less XP the highier you are
You can't do it at 2k
It should give 1000 xp at 2.5k
So you get less XP the higher you are past when you can unlock the mission
Or, if you wanna keep it neutral to the XP you get at 2.5k, make the difficulty be 2.5k and then set the XP to 800 instead of 1k. 😂
That is how it works
Its not. XS

Its a completely different formula for XP to level drop off. Go test :p
why is the xp dropoff being so highly specific important, anyway
just make it give a nice round 1 level at the moment it's unlocked
and less at higher levels. Similar to ~all other missions with significant exp rewards
@naive sonnet if the mission is even offering an XP reward, then it should be POSSIBLE to get the max reward. as it currently is, you can not do the mission untill you are 500 levels higher so you can never get 100% of the xp.
you can NOT even do this mission until you are level 2500
Bobbo showed me the math it's the same as setting it to 800 XP at 2500. But it's really not a big deal for 200 xp
Did this mission used to be available at 2k and then was updated to 2.5k?
No, T23 just unlocks at 2.5k
I'll just change it to level 2.5k
That was tough to read.
honestly this whole conversation just makes me think that there needs to be some sort of objective standard for how much exp a mission should give, based off of a calculated time to complete or something
clearly the whole "i dunno, make it give 3 levels" strategy of eyeballing it is not ideal
200 XP doesn't really justify. It really is just OCD lol
yes but why 1k exp, either?
why 800, why 1k?
it's just eyeballing it, picking a number which sounds right and is appealingly round
completely subjective
well it leads to 5 pages of discussion about exactly how much exp a mission should give, when there's no plausible way to say that literally anyone involved is actually right
I think that's fine. The real issue here is just XP level being before mission requirement
If you want to make feedback on how much effort a mission takes - which is subjective
that's fine
I was wrong in how the math worked here and was wrong.
So resolved going forward.
in some MMOs, things are set up so that you can set target goals - for instance, a player should be able to gain 2,000 exp a hour, or 1m credits, or somesuch.
And then you can go from there; figure out the expected time to complete of a mission statistically or by calculating it (you need to travel XYZ distance and kill ABC enemies, a typical player moves Z distance per second and C enemy takes this long to kill...), and then set the rewards to a more objective standard so that the goal rate is met.
This has the big advantage of being pretty robust and consistent and the only real point of contention is the goal exp rate itself, everything else is just math that follows from this
this does not quite work in SS, because missions are run in parallel
but I would say its something to strive for
Mhm. Yep. Yeah XP doesn't exactly convert over in a mmo that has no level cap
And mission xp formula works not like kill xp formula
There's a lot going on and we have it mostly dialed in and there's some designer choice. There's biggier XP questions that are in works in what should be the best way to get levels
And we have things in motion.
that is good to hear
I appreciate your candor and care for the game.
