Highly Recommend installing the Perfected Doom Mod if you play this. Also almost all of the addons EXCEPT Premium. The Premium Addon started out as being good, but then the guy added a whole bunch of sound clips that ruin it all.

oh, Doom 3 as a game is an unpolished mess. It's also the dark sheep of the series, being an atmospheric horror shooter trying to catch on to the hype that Half-Life had in anticipation of the Half-Life 2 release, one month after Doom 3 came out. It's NOT a fast-paced fun shooter, and that's what rubs everyone the wrong way.

Doom 3 as it is now though, with so much being done with the ID Tech 4 Engine and mods? fans have done the work that the devs should have done, making a good, polished game that can own up to the style it was going for, or even make it more like classic Doom.

But it felt like a solid game with no issues when I played it

Now I will say in terms of speed the main campaign does take a bit before it gets much faster.
And most people won’t be willing to play the first 4-5 hours before they get to what they would consider to be “true doom”

#

But in total it is far from a “slow” game.

Doom Eternal made me realize one interesting thing in Doom 3 - your ammo capacity doesn’t make any sense. Doom 3 has probably the highest ammo limits for its weapons and there is nothing even remotely close to the situation where so much ammo could be required

So I’ve modified my character to have only one more clip for each weapon, and suddenly it fits perfectly! You still have plenty chances to refill ammo but on levels you’re forced to switch weapons much more frequently
