Track ahead of the target. If that works, then it's probably a timing issue.

Another issue that you might need to look into as well is the constant speed change. If I'm not mistaken, you're increasing the speed in order to catch up with the bot, but sometimes when you do so, the bot changes direction and your cross hair becomes even farther from the bot.

Try the scenario again but focus on maintaining a somewhat constant speed, if you have to increase it, increase gradually after the bot changes direction.

It might help to try and play "Controlsphere easy" and focus on staying as close to the middle of that bot as possible
