Alcohol is a sedative, so it will relax you both physically and psychologically.

Issue is however that you are now trying to use it as a crutch.

Don't do that, given that this can spiral out of control, either by increasing the frequency or having a negative impact on your mental being: "If I don't take this sip/drink, I would not perform as good...."

Learn to deal with the fact that you learn from mistakes, and accept that you will make many, and that you have to overcome certain "stressors" on your own withour relying on things like alcohol, which technically speaking isn't that healthy for you regardless of how much you drink.

Pick up healthier habits, like yoga, exercise, breathing exercises and what not to clear your mind.

I see. In that case, it is fine, but I wanted to mention it regardless even if you didn't end up drinking more because of it or whatever.

It is just that tying crutches together with a specifc task or goal in mind, can be a bit of slippery slope even if its only mentally.

You might start to compare yourself too much to your 1-drink-self and this can cause you to doubt your performance or maybe cause some form of performance anxiety in general, while there are also plenty of alternatives to clear your head, that don't need things like alcohol, and just will overal strengthen your resolve much better given that you are/will be actually in control of it.
