Hitting the ball dead center on kickoff is not the way to go because you will kill almost all your momentum.

if you have just enough sideways momentum (around your opponent), then you will block the ball from pinching behind you and your car will go where the ball is going (winning the kickoff)

The best way to improve air roll is to simply practice certain drills with it and get a good feel for it. There’s really no secret trick or shortcut you can take with learning air roll
