i use O for boost and i've been playing since 2019 with it so i dont think your case should be much different. personally i haven't really struggled with mechanics and my time ranking up has been quite smooth ( i am c2 rn but hit c3 div 3 like a week or 2 ago)

i use RB and it helped me a lot to do a lot of mechs easier because i dont have to roll my thumb but just know that it takes a while to get used to it. You dont need this setting to be good for example squishy uses B but it does make mechs a little easier
