The only hard thing about AT Rey Dau is how you can't blind him out of the sky
so he just constantly runs away
I hate farming this Rey Dau
its either people dont have the camp near his initial spawn
or people who join my quest but spawning at the base camp which is like the opposite of where Rey Dau is

like sure, if you go all in on defense you will live and never die to AT Rey Dau
but it feels like unless you go the entire way with full divine protection, stun resist, maxed lightning resist with hh, you don't survive the 2 hit combo of that
i got hit by lot of shit with 3 lightning res deco
i never got 1 direct lightning hit and stunned like that guy at all
also ppl forgot mega armorskin exist + food that increase element resist
I went normal armor skin and you do get afflicted with Thunderblight regardless
and it stacks fast
and the railgun is effectively a guaranteed stun once its on you

because you have very little warning and I believe requires Evade Extender to roll out of the range or Evade Window to give more iframes

You can only put ammo in slots but if the ammo requires combining to make you can put the base items in and combine them
with them letting you "return to camp" at any time there's no real ammo concern

its great for non tempered or easy fights

so like your combos will be :

and you have to refocus if you get knocked down to use the Offset/Focus Strike

ngl i dropped off wilds so hard that i probably won't even touch the game till the expansion hits
it's probably the least i ever played a monster hunter game

They removed literally everything except the combat you might as well just have every quest be an arena quest
Sad because the world is gorgeous and there's so many little interactions and level design that just completely fucking ignored because hurr durr chocobo
seems i'm not alone either, there's more ppl on world rn than wilds and i think wilds 24 hour peak is lower than world's has ever been in the 6 years it's been out
and that's coming off a massively more successful launch too
i just quickly ran out of things to do
They just way overreached when trying to attract casuals
if i don't have a goal i typically lose interest and i was alrdy quickly running out of steam making builds for random weapons i barely cared about
And instead alienated their core users

Me personally, as the first MH game I got into, I'm very thankful for the Focus mode because that was the main issue I had with old MH, the janky feeling of trying to yank the camera and player to hit where you want to hit. It made the game very skill expressive, sure, but I wouldn't be playing as much without Focus imo
And one criticism I have is the overly streamlined build system. Feels very same-y across the board for every player, with some very niche builds but even then they incorporate the same core skills everytime. It might be the case with Worlds and past iterations but you can also argue that with guides and such being more prominent, people will look up "Best build XYZ", "The strongest setup!1!!111!!", "The only build you ever need!".
i definitely dropped way more hours on base world than base rise or base wilds
rise at least had apexes for "muh endgame" and grinding talismans if you want to include that

idk, the only thing that turned me off from MH was the unresponsiveness of the weapons
The first time going through the ancient forest in world was fucking mesmerizing for me as someone who has played most of them

I hate that in games where it just won't let you work your character like you want it to

most of that comes from 2 things
not being able to roll backwards

they made hitzones much worse so you had to wound to do decent damage

GS has counters
it shoulder tackles through everything
a casual can easily do the base combo but mastery over hammer lets you do a lot of moves whenever and wherever
it's everything i think is wrong with modern monster hunter
and that is that you're able to completely ignore what the monster is doing
They definitely did something with GS in Wilds with how they sped up everything from what I learnt
the counter spam, the tackle to cancel charge slashes
this is the main point tho
but at the same time, if I were to play the GS
you basically dont even know what monster doing at all in wild
I would play Wilds GS cuz I would miss the fuck out of every swing in older games
monsters have just become punching bags

there is move optimisation and learning patterns of monsters
you CAN do the crimson slash spam and that is fine by me

when you WANT to do better, you learn to do the same moves that Peppo does
Hammer, you can just spam 1 button into MCS
but learning when to offset, optimal move and timing
learning when certain attacks can fit in a pattern or not
learning when you can use spinning bludgeon instead of running away because of hte little movement you get while spinning
fucking that move also does the best elemental damage out of all the others because of how many times it hits
To me, Wilds has a good amount of "Do this combo to be good enough" type shit that balances out with "If you want to be a master and improve yourself, you learn to do more than good enough"

chainaxe is satisfy to play at first few time
then you notice how ass to play as aolo
everyone just charge shield by holding it
not many properly weave in the shield bash to speed it up
and how you can perfect block into axe into sword n shield into a slide slash into double slash
then you just shield bash to charge your shield into another double slash for your full phial setup
those cb moveset was highest learning curve playstyle in the game
yeah and just optimising animations and movement is what I learn and practice whenever I play CB
meanwhile you have people just spamming double slash then running off to a corner to slowly charge
then wait for a wound and then power axe spam
like if you wanna play like that, go ahead, but im gonna be doing this better than you

That said, you can easily get by with basic knowledge which meant a lot of people got bored fast
But intricate knowledge of weapon interactions with the monsters, little niches and animation canceling

I went from longsword to hammer to hunting horn
Then to cb, db, sw and ig
Hammer gameplay is so satisfying
They updated some stuff too in TU2
I have enough experience with the games that i only have to check the new skills/moves out to rly see if i'd like a weapon or not unless it was changed pretty drastically like hunting horn
I don't have that big of an ego like some people to exclusively play 1 weapon
Which massively increases my enjoyability cuz I learn so much
I think i played a solid 5 or 6 weapons
And get to pick and choose
I play all except ranged, GS, lance and gunlance
Though I may delve into lance one day

I disliked db reverse demon mode for awhile

But I got used to it and personally use it over SnS as my comfy weapon
I've tried to like hammer's gameplay a lot in previous games and i just never did, i don't care enough about this game to reinstall it and try hammer again, maybe with the expansion

I'll see with the expansion though, it's not unusual for weapons to get more stuff with an expansion and then with some added difficulty it'll be the perfect time to check out other weapons again
main issue for wild is the current monster roster rn is not satisfy to keep hunting it
and i kinda doubt that charm/talisman system update wont retain ppl also
Expansion needs to remove the chocobo. Make the game harder. Remove item teleportation. Remove counters from 90% of the weapons. Nerf or remove wounds all together
I find it amusing that all the damage gimmicks added in different games are just a way to nerf WEX
Removing seikret would not help, I don't care much for your purist tendencies but it's fucking annoying to run everywhere and it loses the momentum you feel in a fight
While I agree certain things like seikret mid fight for mobile item use is a bit op at times and abused a ton, just having the seikret move you from place to place is fine
Yeah it would. They made a massive map with tons of interactions and collectibles only for it to be ignored. You lose the immersion
It's not. There is a massive difference between having to manually traverse and actually appreciate and explore and going afl while you ride a train
Immersion means nothing to me when I'm walking down the same path for the 15th time trying to race after the monster who refuses to stop running
Then just make every area 1 small arena

No it makes me think how annoying it is to cover ground to find the next arena it chooses to go
Not to mention it narrows down a lot of the locations because you can't expect someone to fight for 10 min then make him run around the map for the next 10 only to find the boss and they run for the next arena
Then you get predictable and stale locations to fight monsters cuz its nest then arena 1 and maybe arena 3
Removing any dynamic use of surroundings because they narrow the map so much

I get the immersion, I get wanting the knowledge check, but it's not gonna make you sound impressive when it's just gonna be plastered on a wiki that everyone will have open on a second monitor
The only compromise I have is disabling or making the monster not reveal where they are going requiring a paint pod
Someone marks it, you have to manually run there with seikret or open your map to see where the monster is going then auto pathing to the location
Then you have a knowledge check where players familiar will run to the spot while others will have to deduce where and select the auto path movement to a location
It won't show where the monster is going but it will reveal it on the map
just go play world and you know what he meant

Giving the player a literal subway train directly to monsters removes so much from the game
You no longer get hit by random mosquitos that cause you to rage and kill everything

The dumbass owl in rise was a problem too, as were scout flies in world but at least in world you had to manually traverse

few things to argue against this :
- Steam Sale just happened, Worlds is on a 70% discount. Definitely got an influx of new players.
- Players burnt from MH or wishing to try MH but wanting to not play Wilds atm, will most likely join Worlds as you said because of the feature completeness.
Thus you can say that Worlds having an increase in numbers ain't necessarily due to Worlds being inherently the timeless classic everyone will play 24/7

- is irrelevent since world ccu had been stable before the sale happen
with Wilds there are definite peaks in gameplay during updates for a couple weeks before it dies out

and need to point out again that power guard has less dmg reduction
if you do normal guard that not perfect guard should be just fine

guard 3 is for stamina depletion not for reduced damage, guard up is the one that reduces damage on hits with a shield

guard up has always been for unblockable attacks
in world it was 1 point
but as with powerguard 99% of the time it's not worth using
and speccing for guard up feels so bad because it takes up weapon skill slots
which wasnt as bad in previous games
most unblockable attacks now are just 1 shots anyways
previously it was just medium damage unblockable
but there were a lot more of them
same with grabs there's almost no grabs now
