I am trying to convert my windows install to a vhd for use in a vm found this https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/disk2vhd which does exactly that but i am getting this error when i try to make the image

hmm if i only select the C:\ drive it works but don't i need the EFI partition for the VHD to be bootable in a VM?

Becaue of how windows works you need Administrator privlieges

with efi partitions it is very picky about what you do with it
