I was having trouble with deleting drivers that stopped my Core Isolation to work. Saw that there were multiple unknown profiles with rights.

When I was trying to delete said drivers it said i need permissions from SYSTEM then i fixed it and said I need from Administrators

#

oh, you were deleting files directly. definitely don't do that

Why

stuck brook
#

drivers are installed and need to be properly uninstalled

#

a clean install has all of those roles and won't let you manually yeet drivers

#

I saw with the app Everything that those drivers had a bunch of spelling mistakes in the names of the company etc

#

And i spent days on uninstalling and running malwarebytes and adwarebytes and defender scans since my system got unreasonably slow

#

And while messing with defender i noticed my Core isolation was off due to thay

#

core isolation is off by default if you're on windows 10

elfin quiver
#

Didnt know that. But it said i cant turn it on due to those reasons

#

Im going to run DriverEasy for drivers

stuck brook
#

yeah, that's pretty normal. a lot of windows 10 drivers aren't built to work with core isolation. you can uninstall them either through device manager or through the uninstaller of whatever program the driver is for, but you can't just delete them

#

drivereasy is not good to run. it'll grab unverified drivers from unknown sources and install them without telling you

elfin quiver
#

But it tells you that its verified from Windows or something like WQH

#

I used it before on newer systems but the system im dealing with now is older so i doubt it has its own manufacturer page

#

But how do i verify each "permission" holder is legit and only me? And how do i remove who isnt?

stuck brook
#

can you show me the list?

just as an fyi, the DESKTOP-Whatever isn't sensitive information, it's literally just random

#

it's not linked to anything anywhere, and anyone can change that to be anything they want it to be

#

and yeah, all of these are fine

almost all of them are groups rather than individual users. you only have the default users and yourself

no. the only drivers you should update regularly are gpu drivers, and you get those directly from the manufacturer. all the other drivers are handled through windows update, or you can manually download them from the manufacturer - almost all of them are from the motherboard

Driver Managers/"Boosters"

Any bit of software claiming to manage and speed up your drivers is a waste of your time. They source their drivers from unknown locations and make other shady changes to your system. At best they're snake oil, at worst they're malicious. They're generally considered a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) and should be uninstalled ASAP.

If you want to make sure your drivers are up to date, then let Windows Update or Device Manager deal with it. Alternatively, get the drivers yourself from the manufacturers' websites.

Side note, what are some good anti viruses? And what are some tools within Windows and otherwise, like (sfc can and dism) to help restore the health of my pc?

Windows comes with one of the best antiviruses on it already so don't waste your money
