#Windows explorer constantly freezing/crashing

Good afternoon all, I am not sure why but starting yesterday my Windows explorer started to act wonky. It would freeze and then restart by itself. Task manager shows no signs of explorer/any other programs causing it to behave this way. Here are the things I have tried already:

-Updated windows
-Disabled all startup programs
-Restarted my pc multiple times
-Ran SFC /Scannow (It found corrupted files but did not resolve issue)
-Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /restorehealth
-Ran AV to make sure it wasn't a virus/malware
-Ran windows memory diagnostic
-Ran in safe mode (Appeared to work properly so maybe another program causing issue?)

As far as I remember, I haven't installed any new programs between now and yesterday. I am at a loss for what it could be. I am going to try repairing windows but I have my doubts it will work without a complete reinstall of windows. I am posting my pc specs below:

CPU: R9 5950X
GPU: RTX 3080TI
Mobo: MSI B550 Mortar
RAM: 64GB (4x16) DDR4 3600MHZ

May of found the fix? Firefox just had a hotfix and my issue appeared to have gone away after it performed the update...

After restart it started doing it again.

May be that the disk is showing its first signs of failure.

I don't have any HDD's in my pc. I am running only M.2 SSD. Would the symptoms be similar to a hdd failure as im not familiar as how it would act

#

Also it is only the taskbar that crashes. Everything else works with no issues

It's really difficult to get meaningful SMART stats from M.2 disks, but you're free to try with CrystalDiskInfo. The obvious symptoms could be BSODs like INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE , there could be long delays during boot or just a black screen. WHEA errors could also arise from a bad SSD.

There could be stutters, software/game corruptions and OS corruption requiring you to repair (w DISM/SFC) often.

#

Think I'm just scratching the surface, there are plenty of symptoms and vague errors that point to it

So I found the issue, it appears to be steam. I am not sure why steam would be causing this issue but after I close it, all my issues go away.

So I downloaded the crystal disk info program like you suggested and it isn't detecting my drives. I went to watch a tutorial on how to use the program and theirs appears to automatically detect the drive

#

When I click on disk. Nothing appears either

I downloaded Aida as a test. It's detecting the drives but when i go to SMART it doesn't find either of my SSD's

Thats interesting. I have a brand new samsung 990 evo in here as well and it isn't detecting it either

Hmm....is the motherboard an issue now too?

Is very possible

#

I know my cpu temps don't read correctly it says idling on the desktop they sit at 70-90 degrees

Damn.

The issue has been extremely inconsistent as well. I know Im going back to the steam issue but after I restarted it, it hasn't been acting up.

I jinxed it
