Moving down editions requires a clean install which typically requires an external media like a USB or DVD

I'd suggest buying one or borrowing one - in the vast majority of the developed world they're relatively cheap.

you just need to remove the current Pro activation and activate the Home key.
but still, do you have the actual product keys or your Windows is digitally activated?
for OEM product i.e. the ones that comes with laptop, you can do just that with slmgr

oh that one is from Windows 11 to Windows 10

My interpretation was that it was same version, moving between editions

that kind of downgrade

#

there are a few unsupported downgrade paths
but Pro to Home is supported

I'll have to ask for clarification from the contributors to that article,
either way, if slmgr works to downgrade from pro to home then that's great to know - certainly will save a lot of people a fair amount of time

just remove the current pro activation/key
and activate the OEM/retail home key

i figured as much, just weird that the article and a lot of other resources contradict that

then again, this older article states downgrades are possible between windows 10 pro and home at least - with the condition that you lose data

Guess it's a case of try it and find out - I'll see if I have the time and licences to give it ago at some point.
Or of course is OP successfully does it then that would work too
