I have just recently reformatted my PC, prior to reformatting I deleted a drive, My WD Black m.2 . Since the format I cannot add the volume. It does show up in the device manager however. The drivers are all up to date as long as the firmware. The Western Digital Dashboard also has detected it but I am not able to assign it a drive letter from that program. Taking a look at cmd and doing a disk part the volume does not show up there either. I'm sure this is something obvious I am missing but I've lost the patience to keep searching google for the same three answers and not getting the right answer. So please if you can help lemme know! ๐

Ill add this too
is that drive connected externally?... or internally?
internally
I assume you are using desktop....whats your motherboard model name?
asus z370e
okay!...hold up!
sometimes... the board doesnt allow all SATA or m.2 drives to be online at the same time....
check if you can unplug/disable some of them and test with the one ...in question...if it is detected properly
see here comes another problem im having haha
none of my drives are populating in my bios
hm?...
i can go in there and change the bios setting for the m.2s to x4
should have options to disable a drive...from bios..
last time i did that tho, i crashed
just disable all storage except the one running windows...and WD...to test if it detects WD
you should be able to disable..storage from here!
so the volume still didnt show up, after bios changes and a restart, i seem to have missed one drive so ill need to restart again, and ill take a picture of my bios for connected drives when i get back there
what changes?..and did you save settings?
so there was a setting to use m.2_2 as an x4 pcie slot wich i think changes how well my video cards work if im not mistaken
did you not disable..storage?
i unplugged the power to my drives
my drives do not show up in the bios
i meant to take a picture of that but i messed that up
I see...okay! make sure you unplug said drives and leave the ones mentioned...or you probably could have done that from bios instead of physically unplugging it
on it
okay all drives have been diconnected
physically, by power, the sata cables are still in, just giving you all the info
just keep the windows storage and that m.2 WD plugged in....
boot up and check...disk management and device manager....share screenshot...
what about disk management..
i feel like i need to get to the drive in cmd or powershell somehow, i dont know how, and then assign it
is that WD in mbr partition style?...
right click and scan for hardware changes...
im not sure what you are asking me to do, the WD was completely wiped prior to my reformat with the new Samsung drive
WD Community
I had an issue with my WD Black Sn750 just now after a windows update. My bios showed no storage available and I was unable to access my drive and contents. I could see in my disk partitions that it had no data stored at all also, all 2TB was available (even though I couldnโt use it). Basically I fixed my issue by going into device manager, r...
apparently its an issue with this model... however...you can try using another m.2 slot
OR if you have an external usb to nvme adapter....use it to connect it externally...then format it to gpt parition style
here is a compatibilty list..for your SSD! @robust kiln
it used to work thats the thing
it was in my computer working for a year atlest
and its position on the board hasnt changed
its a known issue I guess.... use another/all m.2 slot...and test...if not working...then connect it through USB and reformat the drive in GPT partition style..in the hopes that it gets detected...internally
okay so ill disconnect it, put it in the main m.2 slot and use a bootable usb and format the drive
before that...install WD software for the SSDs...
check if it detects it
then secure erase your SSD...
in the thread
from that software
secure erase that SSD...from the software
if you have no data on it...that is
if you have important data on that WD...then you shouldnt
i dont have important data on it
then proceed with secure erase...
also make sure you have all the storage drivers...installed..
i do and all the firmware is up to date as well
this one installed?...
yes
check with the secure erase...best of luck!
you cant find it?..
click tools
okay
seems like you are having ..problems after problems!...
reformat..and try again..
the thing is that drive is completely empty it seems like it doesnt even have a bootable partition
like its completely empty
usb or wd?
the WD
it doesnt matter...now
secure erase...then proceed to create a windows bootable usb...boot from it...and then use clean command and then convert WD to GPT
done already?...check if it detects now..
looking at the usb drive it copied itself to, seems like it has all the firmware it need to work, anyway im gonna restart my computer with what, the new usb i created or, windows 11 usb i have?
you are probably not done with secure erase... boot from the usb and secure erase
ah ok
Which device do I select?
This is what I'm looking at
I'll google the numbers
thats the serial number.... from the WD software...
do you remember it for that WD?..
then you have to boot back to windows...and open that WD software ..and get the serial number...
And I'm looking for something that's similar
you should find that ...in the software...
you will need to be sure...because it will erase all data...
proceed...
Secure erase, Format, Sanitize, or PSID revert are my options, I know you said Secure Erase, but these options, especially format, have piqued my interest
secure erase is must...format wont cut it...
๐
although you could go for sanitize... but dont know how long it would take..
use sanitize...
Check again with the detection...
To think I have a degree in IT and I'm this baffled
BOOM
that is exactly what i wanted to see
I see it finally worked..haha!
man
sry
Its alright...I am just glad it worked...
It could have been a sticky situation...
Its alright...tech support is volunteer service!...
No need..
