heres a weird issue i have been encountering lately, whenever i open explorer from the taskbar, it'll completely hang the entire explorer process and restart it. this is a major inconviniece because it even happens when i open some programs that utilize explorer. The weirdest thing about this issue is that if i right click the icon, then open it through the context menu, it'll open, then this issue wont occur for a while.
To solve this, I've ran sfc /scannow however, whilst it claimed to fix some corrupted files, after rebooting, the issue still arises.
I have also performed many system updates to no avail. Any help?
#Explorer crashing when opening directly from taskbar

stupid idea, but have you tried unpinning and pinning it to the taskbar again
unpin, close all windows, pin again is my idea
does opening it via the start menu or Win+E shortcut also cause issues?
also DISM might help:
This utility scans the system for corruption in the system files which may be responsible for irregular operating system behaviour. For more information, check this page (written by Microsoft).
Use DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth if SFC fails to properly fix the problem.
nothing really. at one point i had StartAllBack installed, but there were no issues for quite a few months until the issue arose. so i highly doubt its to do with that. especially since now its uninstalled and this still happens. other than that, i havent done anything, this issue just arose randomly one day when explorer crashed when transferring a file over to a VM, then this just kept happening
yes, this didnt work though.
the start menu / win + E does not cause it to crash. only opening it directly from the taskbar lnk
i have ran sfc scannow, not dism though. ill run it today since i dont need the computer.
That might be the issue. Mainly explorer modifications, programs that mod explorer might cause it to stop working
Make sure the explorer mod matches the windows version you are using
i fixed this yesterday
uhhh basically
uninstall photoshop cs4 if you have it

im not even joking
absolutely rediculous
Lol
