I was wondering if I could use SMB for using remote desktop on my Windows desktop for gaming on my MacBook since my average download/upload speed via SMB is 10MB/s and I think that would perform better than any other remote desktop program. Sorry for bad English

I would play at 1080p@30 since I am playing emulated switch games, so resolution/framerate really shouldn't be a problem

  1. Are you trying to access only the files remotely through SMB? And 2, Will you be accessing the share via LAN or WAN?
#

If you're trying to access it through WAN, I'd highly suggest creating a local VPN like OpenVPN, WireGuard, Tailscale, Zero Tier, etc and using it to connect to the share.

#

If you're trying to access the share locally, it should work and you are limited by your the share's disk speed as well as your LAN connection's link speed.

#

It also sounds like you're trying to stream your Windows PC to your Macbook??

In that case, SMB is not the right protocol to use. It's used only for network file shares and not RDP. That's a different protocol altogether.
