Hey all, been playing prot for 2 days now after rerolling from DH. Trying to figure out what im doing incorrect as i know my damage is giga low.

So, at a quick glance real fast for both dungeons, the biggest issue appears to be that there's a lot of rage getting munched and wasted. In the Eco Dome, you wasted 3352 rage, so 33 and a half entire rage bars, and in the Streets, you wasted 4203 rage, or 42 bars of rage. That's a ton of rage not being fueled into the class' gears, so no fueling Anger Management (420 seconds of CDR wasted from Avatar and Shield Wall; 7 entire minutes, so multiple casts), no fueling Outbursts (extra damage, rage), etc

#

A lot of this compounds onto itself, since casting Avatar gives you more rage baseline, and that's before considering that Avatar lets you press Thunder Clap/Blast more often

#

Since the more you don't spend rage, the more rage you don't get to generate

#

So it all compounds on itself very fast

#

As Thane, since you have a lot of chances to spend your GCDs on Shield Slam and Thunder Clap/Blast and don't need to revenge as often, you end up spending even more rage on IP to avoid overcapping

#

With how low your IP casts are, it feels like you're not really using IP to properly bleed off the rage you're generating

#

If you ever get to around like 60-70 rage, you should just press IP so as to prevent wasting any rage and everything that comes with spending rage.

#

You're also getting hit from behind while shield block is up a few times; it can be a little awkward in Eco Dome with all the teleporting mobs, but you're still taking a few more hits that would be preferable

#

The Streets key as well as a few hits to the back while shield block was active, as well, though it's not as bad

#

It's almost inevitable you'll take some hits to the back throughout a key (mobs stutter stepping to readjust, gathering, a crazed DPS decides to typhoon all the mobs behind you), but it helps to reduce that number of incidents to the best of your ability

#

It also feels like you might potentially be missing out on Demo Shout casts, since you're only at 31 casts of Demo Shout in a 29 minute key for the Streets key; before any talents, Demo Shout only has a 45s CD, so for every four minutes, you get an extra cast effectively. Off the top of my head, that should be able to fit in like 7 more casts just off the base CD alone. You're not running Thunderlord (which is a weird decision as Thane, considering how much time you spend Thunder Clapping), which means you're not getting any of the CDR, but even still

#

There's likely more casts you could have snuck in

#

Your outburst distribution is also a little rough, but it's a lower priority fix than making sure you're properly spending your rage and utilizing your CDs on CD properly

#

Just by fixing those two, you'll get tons more outbursts, which means that even if you send them at a bad ratio, you'll just naturally end up sending even more than usual

#

As a whole, you're doing pretty fine in terms of making sure to keep sending Shield Slam though; in fact, that's where most of your rage loss is coming from is sending shield slams before properly spending your rage

#

If Ignore Pain isn't on a comfy keybind for you, you should likely adjust that, since you're going to need to be sending a lot more IPs over the course of the dungeons you're running

I appreciate the time and effort. I do think I need to re-bind IP as its a bit awkward to hit as much as I seem to need to.
I get a little overwhelmed by how much rage im generating and not prioritizing bevause im trying to clap and slam more. I definetly miss casts of Shout its just something im not conditioned to look for honestly.

Definetly a lot to fix. Thanks for the write up.

Additional questions i have. Where in our prio should execute come into play? I assume after slam and clap are on CD

Alright, I'm looking through this now, so give me a bit

However, if you're using AoE Execute and have multiple targets, you can place it a bit higher up to prioritize getting more damage out

#

It's still less value than Thunder Blast with tier set procs, but you can generally pace its usage based on your current rage gain; it might be useful to use it over shield slam if you're almost capped, for example; just depends on your current rage economy, so execute use is probably the hardest thing to get used to, especially with AOE execute now

#

Your outburst usage has improved dramatically, by the way, so really good props to you on that

#

To give you an idea how much better it's going, you generated almost the same amount of rage as you did in your last 11 Eco Dome you came in here with.

This Eco Dome was like 4 and a half minutes shorter.

So with much less time, you gained the same amount of rage.

#

You've also managed to reduce your rage waste by about 2/3, which means you actually in practice gained more used rage in the entire key in less time.

#

This, plus tier set, is making your cast breakdown look a lot healthier. You've got tons more Demo Shouts out, your Avatar uptime went from 48% to almost 60%,

#

You've improved a ton in a very short time period, so you should definitely feel good about that progress.

#

You can still bring the rage waste down a bit more; you're still losing the most around shield slam casts, so it's most likely losing a few bits of rage every now and then when outburst shield slams come up, so keep an eye on that and you'll eke out even a bit more damage and CDR out of your kit

#

Most notably, you're pulling your damage numbers with a veteran track wep, like 30 ilvl below what you could get with a crafted wep or a myth track wep, and there are trinkets that would eke out a bit more damage than your current set. So your damage future is looking pretty good right now.

#

You're getting to the point of some smaller optimizations to really max out your damage in ways that aren't just pull bigger, so get ready to take whatever wins you can while improving

#

The main things to work on at this point would be a final push to get rage waste just a bit lower, followed by seeing where you can manage to sneak in execute uses; even if you're hitting a priority target that has more hp with shield slam, you can do things like shield slam that main mob, then click over to a trash mob that's in execute range, and slap it with an execute to try and cleave back onto the main target. It'd do a lot more damage than a Thunder Clap and would be a good way to spend your rage if you're sitting on a healthy pool/have ravager procs/etc

#

Also, some of your defensive use is dropping down a bit, so make sure you're not getting complacent and forget to use those.

#

A reminder that spell reflect has a DR component to it, as well, not just reflecting spells, so you can use it any time there's magic damage coming in on you, whether from AoEs to help prevent smart heals from going to you over the DPS, or to reduce dots/tank mechs, etc
