#New to fury, need help with DPS

I started playing WoW 2 months ago and since then I’ve been trying to learn as much as possible about the Fury Warrior class. I’ve figured out the best keybinds, addons, and Weak Auras for myself, and I’ve watched a lot of guides to maximize my DPS.
However, I often feel that both in Raids and in Mythic+ my DPS is low, even though I believe I know the basics and I’m also aware of the mechanics (e.g. positioning).

In other aspects of the game I’m still a beginner. I know my gear is not the best, and I also haven’t really spent enough time dealing with enchants, gems, and buffs.

In the video attached below I included an example of what my rotation looks like.
Basically, I prioritize Rampage and maintaining rage. I use Execute when the weak aura tells me to, or when neither Raging Blow nor Rampage are available and I’m about to cap on rage. It’s the same with Bloodthirst, which I also use as a filler. I use my major cooldowns as soon as I can, trying to line them up and use them optimally.

What advice could you give me, what could be the reason my DPS is low? Where could I improve? I’d be grateful for any feedback!

also here is the summary

I'm not really a DPS War player, since I mostly tank, buuuuut

" when neither Raging Blow nor Rampage are available and I’m about to cap on rage" this is semi-concerning, since Execute shouldn't cost rage as Fury. One of the earliest talents in the tree even makes it generate rage, instead

hi i am lex i will try to help you with what i got here it aint much but lets see what we can do

  • first of all yes your gear isnt the yellow from the egg you are right about that but also your WA is a bit off i think its critcakes version of the autrocity ui (?) the crit tracker for BT is no longer required BT is a useless button currently and the past few seasons we needed the crit tracker to min max BT crits but RB is just straight up better lol so no need to use it. your talents are for S3 tierset wich you currently only have 1 piece of so that isnt optimal either also you dont have last seasons tierset obv so thats also doing you no favour. so overall you are at a big disadvantage hehe

  • your opener idk what it is but it seams to be a very common problem i think almost evrey fury warrior i have helped so far seams to get the opner wrong now here is how you do your opener correctly.

  1. Reck
  2. Avatar
  3. Charge (this will give you enough rage to cast rampage and get you enraged)
  4. Rampage
  5. BS (Bladestrom)
  6. RB(Raging blow) spam until either you run out of RB stacks are about to lose enrage / lost enrage or have 5 stacks of SS (Slaughtering strikes)
  7. Rampage
  8. Roar(?) (its rly bad dmg wise and even the wowhead guide isnt recommending it so might as well not press it it does like half the dmg an RB does lol)

after this you continue your main rotation to which i will leave you a link at the end.

alright i will link you the wowhead rotation page i think just reading this will help you a lot to understand of what you are doing wrong / could be doing better. If you have any questions about how to read the APL (action prio list) you can ask me and i will explain

  • fury isnt very complex but if you dont understand the base of the spec you are doing very small mistakes very often which will kill your dps.

https://www.wowhead.com/guide/classes/warrior/fury/rotation-cooldowns-pve-dps

  • also lastly i am sorry i cant help you as much as i can help other ppl i could go over your log but the problem is if you dont rly know the APL going over it is very rough. so read through the apl if you have questions ask me and if you think you now know kinda what you are doing try to get a log of a raid boss and i will review that and tell you what you could be doing better :)

First of all, thank you for the answers, they already helped me a lot.

Yes, my UI was indeed inspired by Critcake. I usually watch him the most, because with his content I understand things the best, and so far his WA is the best one I’ve tried.

Also, I was already surprised at how much things like the tier set and talents are interconnected. I know that gear puts me at a big disadvantage, but I thought that until I learn the rotation and the basics perfectly, it doesn’t make sense to apply for raids and underperform because of bad DPS.

As a beginner it’s really hard to get a clear overview of WoW—by the time I finally understand one aspect, another problem comes up that I need to look into, and a bigger rabbit hole opens up. I haven’t played any MMORPGs before, only shooters, so it’s tough to adapt to this completely new gameplay.

I’ll definitely read through the guides you sent and try to put them into practice. I mostly understand the theory, but there’s so much to keep track of during a fight that I start to panic and mess up my rotation. Btw so far, as I said, Critcake’s videos and this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8u_YGg1T_s&t=1743s&ab_channel=OxxyOG) video have helped me.

Once I’ve gone through what you wrote, I’ll definitely get back to you and try to make a video from a live raid or maybe a Mythic+. If I need help, should I contact you here or send you a private message?

Hey Everyone! Back again with a guide video for 11.2!!! I wanted to try my hand at making this one a bit more organized. 11.2 is looking to be a fantastic tier and I couldn't be more excited to dive right in! Ghosts of K’aresh is going to be wonderful.

Whether you're new here or returning from previous videos, thank you for taking the time to...

oh yea def wow is a huge rabit whole and honestly i am surprised that you have elvui WA know what m+ is and know what a raid is hehe there are many ppl who dont know that especially after 2 months of playing the game. and yes i get your fear of underperforming but the matter of the fact is that you kinda will not learn otherwise doing your rotation on a dummy is a whole diffrent story compared to doing it while also dodging shit or keeping track of mechanics but just getting here asking for advice puts you ahead of the curve ngl. I have been playing wow for about 6 years now i think and have only played fury warrior / arms but mostly fury during that time so i know the game can be very fucking overwhelming, also crit is a VERY good source to get stuff from.

ugh also you can either dm me or write here it truly doesn't matter to me wherever you feel better :)

I see that that guide says to rampage at 100+ rage instead of wowheads 115, which one is true?

sudden cobalt
# azure lodge I see that that guide says to rampage at 100+ rage instead of wowheads 115, whic...

Seeing that the execution /SD contion is also not correct / outdated we execute /SD at +2 MFE not 3 as this guide says.

I don't want to bad mouth the person making the guide or anything but Archi out theroycrafter, who whrits the apl also happens to write the wowhead guide. So I would and will ALWAYS trust the wowhead guide more bc the scoure is literally the person creating the apl. So my answer is, 115+ - trust the wowhead guide

Yesterday I went through the links, and afterwards I did a normal raid to see how it works in practice.
In short: my DPS went up by 1mil, which I honestly didn’t expect, especially since I still made mistakes. The advices have already helped me a lot. 🙂

Things I changed:

  • learning the opening rotation
  • RB spam/execute right after Bladestorm if it pops up
  • using Thunderous Roar only if no other spell is active (in single target)
  • using Rampage only around/above 110+ rage
  • spamming Execute under 20%
  • not using BT unless I really have to

Things I can still improve:

  • often when Rampage comes up, I hit it right away; I could refine this, especially after Bladestorm, and also wait till rage hits 110+
  • sometimes I don’t time my big CDs properly
  • if no spell is available, my brain freeze and I don’t use Whirlwind, for example for filler
  • due to positioning I often lose DPS

Also I have recordings of the first two bosses uploaded to Drive (since dc doesn’t allow big file uploads). I killed the second one yesterday, the first one today. But I only have a combat log for the first one, which I’m also attaching.

alright i just went over both of the vods and the log as well (vods too like 10min each bc i watch it at .5 speed to see the GCDs and look if you made the right decision) and i must admit i am super happy to see so much improvement literally almost everything that held you back is gone so very well done :) also you are right with the points you still need some work but mostt of the points you still need work on are points that you will learn with time as you play

  • using Rampage when it lights up isnt sth you are alone with almost every single player has that issue (even me sometimes hehe) its just sth your trigger finger has to get used to so just keep working on it and training your brain and you will get to it.

  • CDs are a big thing bc they are as they are named Cool downs :) and miss managing them can suck but also that will come with experience and pulls on bosses, each boss kinda has diff CD timings on some you hold for just a few seconds bc your CDs get up in a bad moment lets say on Loom for example your Reck might get off CD when you are out side for the big aoe and you have to wait and on some bosses you can just perma send bc it lines up in a good way. its very encounter specific on when you use CDs so you will learn it as the tier goes on so managing CDs is sth we will kidna have to relearn every tier but it gets easier the more tiers you have played so just keep at it

  • not using WW yes i saw that on your loom vod there was a moment i think it was at 1:44 or sth like that where you didnt have anything up, no procs, no rage, no BT, no RB literally nothing, and you chose to Roar WHICH to be fair in all honesty was the right move since it does have a higher prio than WW but ther was a periode of like 2 sec or so where you just stood there thinking about what to do until your brain defroze and you roared so i know where you are coming from there is something we cal the ABC rule
    Always
    Be
    Casting
thats the highest possible rule you have as a player the moment you stop casting you are effectively losing dmg you are wasting it, a wrong dps cast is still a dps cast, using an BT instate of an RB is worse but it still like 600k dmg but doing nothing is AA (Auto attack) dmg if anything WW rly isnt great i think it does 300k or sth with my current gear (708 ilvl) but it does WAY more than your AA or doing nothing it also generates rage but to be fair with how fast fury plays you dont often come into the scenario where you dont have shit to press.

  • positioning, yes you are not using your movement enough / making use of it. for example on Loom on the 2nd run out of the big aoe you just RUN out, you didnt leap you ran out, you lost like literally 6 seconds of boss dmg to that thats like 8 GCDs worth of dmg, gone. the right move would have been to wait until the timer is about to run out (2 sec ish) and then leap out. so when she starts casting you just stay there hit the boss until the cast has like 2 sec reaming you leap out stand there for like half a second until the cast is over, charge back in and go ham. also in p2 on loom you lost a few GCDs bc of the positioning of the boss in the shit and you obv not rly wanting to stand in the shit which is the right chose bc A DEAD DPS DOES NO DPS hehe so you thats just unlucky. and will also improve over time when you get to know the fights better and jut feel more comfortable with every single pull. also on first boss you dont rly need to leave him in intermission so when he starts knocking you back you can charge first than get booped away a big charge him again and follow up with a leap and run up to him and hit him if done correctly you can have close to 99% uptime on the boss.

Overall great fucking improvement, you know your mistakes / what's wrong so just keep going. you logged a 33 on first boss which isnt great but your gear is 100% holding you back you logged a 79 in your ilvl bracket so that shows you know what you are doing and its mostly ilvl holding oyu back

I think the most important thing I’ve learned is the importance of Enrage and the proper use of Rage. Before I wrote here, my biggest mistake was that I treated these two things as the same and didn’t really pay attention to them, because I didn’t think I would lose much damage because of it. I was wrong XD.
Anyway, I’ve also applied this knowledge to Mountain Thane Fury, and it also boosted my DPS a lot, just by making sure I’m always enraged and using Rage properly.
I’m grateful that you took the time to help me, and honestly, I was surprised to see that there are such helpful people in the WoW community. Sadly, in pugs it often feels like the opposite :p.
By the way, would you mind if I asked you later for a bit of help with the Mountain Thane rotation as well? Honestly, I just need a feedback, that I do things correctly. Since I’ve been paying attention to the issues I mentioned above, I don’t see any significant problems with my DPS, but I want to make sure I’m not doing something wrong.

So with this I literally only hit execute when that pops?

sudden cobalt
#

ugh bc "installing" is when you do it over the WA client i think most warriors use it i even linked it to like 20 ppl at this point its also in the warrior guide on wowhead so i think "installing" is the prompt thats used for when it gets loaded in via the offical wago client and not with the "copy to clipboard" option and just ctrl + V into the ingame WA import menu

Ahhhh, gotcha, appreciate you

sudden cobalt
# pastel path So with this I literally only hit execute when that pops?

yes the only other reason you would press it is if you cant press anything else but still have a SD proc or execute available doenst happen a lot and i think you are smart enough to press Execute / use a SD proc before you press WW lol. but yes outside of that one thing you press it when it lights up and you are good :)
