Hello everyone! Im quite fresh on warrior (im playing this char 3 weeks), coming from long term BDK (have to learn new tanks cos guild asks for multiclass tank)

I did some keys today with friends: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/QqZ8rVNYzp7Kj1yF

Im looking for general improvements what to do differntly.
Hardest for me atm is pulling - i remember opener for ST and it makes sense for me but i understand situation in keys is a bit different. Otherwise during pulls i feel rly stable - im still amazed how this class takes literally NO DMG in comparsion to BDK KEKW

Im also looking for notes for what to look in logs when i wanna do my own log review (i do it for my BDK) so i would appreciate if someone could give me list of stuff to check.

Thank u in advance, ill appreciate any help so i can improve!

If you're around tomorrow, please ping me at some point so I can try and remember to check into this; I wasn't particularly available today, but I've got downtime tomorrow I can look at everythind during

@radiant mortar pinging as u asked me

As a whole, your performance is actually doing quite well. I haven't had the chance to evaluate how you're using your defensives, but you're definitely using them at least. You could probably avoid getting clipped in the back/upping your blocked hits metric a bit more, but it's relatively minor.

For starting pulls, it's technically the same opener as ST. The harder part as compared to BDK is getting everything grouped up as fast due to a lack of grips, so you have to actually physically trudge over to casters, sock 'em in the gobber, then walk to where you're planting the pull

#

You'd preferably wait until everything's gathered before sending any major damage CDs. You can definitely Charge+Avatar the first pack to get shield block up, as well as give your first TC a bit more oomph so people aren't as likely to rip.

It can help to separate gathering and getting aggro on things, so you can compartmentalize your abilities a bit. Utilizing LOS helps a lot, as well, anytime you can. You'd always want to ping before doing it just so people know where you're gonna stand

#

For gameplay improvements, you're doing pretty alright on it, but you can send a few more Outbursts on SS instead of TC than you are. You're at.least sending most on SS, but you're averaging like 22-26 ish iirc sent on TC

#

That'll give you more rage (and almost always more damage, as well) to generate, which is more defensive uptime, IP casts, and damage CD uptime

#

If you get a log for first pull of Cinder and first boss of Priory, those are some good generic fights to work on for managing your tank defensives/survival. First boss of Floodgate is good, too, so I'll be back in about an hour to dig into that a bit deeper

#

For what you're looking for in logs, you'te generally looking at:

  • Blocked hits metric, underneath damage taken, then hover over the hits tab for Melee
  • Rage waste and use; you can technically get it all the way to zero, but the better you play, the harder it is
  • What you'te sending Outburst on; can tell by going to damage done and selecting the source aura for Violent Outburst, then checking the casts for SS, TC, and if playing Thane, Thunder Blast
  • Casts in general to ensure you're actually sending your buttons on CD

Anyways, i have more Q honestly, i felt guide has on different places different kinds of talents set up so i would like to discuss those

#

Firstly, i wanna discuss differance between m+ and raid build (And by what i understand u can play more offensive and more deffensive build in raid too):

  • M+: https://prnt.sc/0fQ7OnPicMgn - i understand we play Show of force in AoE/m+, then One against many and both Stormbolt and Shockwave talent; also if i would want to i could swap Battering ram to Battle-Scared veteran as it works as semi cheath death?
  • Raid "defensive": https://prnt.sc/6IV3FMg1lOUE - i play Sudden death instead of Show of force, i play Arterial Bleed instead of One against many, i find use for intervene (mainly as movemnt help on some bosses??) and mby extra movement speed from talent node i highlighted? Are there any other class talent tree abilities that could come usefull?
  • Raid "offensive": https://prnt.sc/BAW_0N0I7Bva - playing Massacre and Juggernout

How do u play this full execute build i mentioned as Raid offensive build? Cos i tried it on some HC bosses and i assume u just use SS/TC on CD and use most of rage on execute and to keep SB up? It felt rly unnatural to me but i guess it comes from me being used to BDK where i just use soul reaper each 6s in execute KEKW

Another thing - i have Q about dinars spending. I plan to finish all +12 today and on next monday i should be getting this char into alt mythic raid and i believe we could kill first 6-7 mythic bosses. I did some sims:

What would u suggest to buy for me? Cos in raid droptimizer biggest upgrade atm is:

  • Fists weapon from Mug - this item isnt even suggested in wowhead guide to buy - is it oversimming or smthing?
  • House of Cards and Eye of Kezan
  • Jastor is simming quite low - isnt that wierd?

M+ droptimizer:

  • Book from priory ?
  • Peacemaker?
  • Why is red button simming much higher than both pacemeaker and book?

So one thing to note about book is that you need a specific string to actually get it to work properly. The sim by default will never optimize the use of tome the way you should if aiming to use it for ST/Raid/ETC

#

So Tome is a chronic undersimmer as a result. I believe the custom APL string should be in the pins in the main Protection warrior chat still

novel surge
#

ah ye, i forgot about, ill resim then

#

Jastor simming low isn't too surprising, as it's not that massive of a gain as compared to other cantrip rings we've had

#

Especially in comparison to a lot of the stronger trinkets we have access to (Tome, Kezan if allowed to stack, House of Cards, etc)

#

And iirc, I think red button still sims without the minus tank damage aura, but don't hold me to it

#

For raid, it's easier to talk about the offensive build first. Realistically in raid, all you need to do in order to survive is to use CDs at the right point, as damage is extremely telegraphed in raid. Even in Mythic at most points, you still don't need to mega optimize your defensive ability outside those scenarios. You also aren't always tanking, so it's fine if shield block is down while not actively tanking. You still want to send it whenever you can, since you get extra Shield Slam damage while SB is up, but you optimally want to ensure SB is active the full time that you are tanking, so it's more fine to sit with SB down while not actively tanking.

For execute use in raid, optimally, you actually manage your juggernaut stacks, just like Arms does, until Execute phase proper. You don't want to lose Sudden Death stacks, but it's also relatively low prio in comparison to generating rage unless you run the risk of juggernaut dropping. Once execute phase proper hits, you do the usual Execute phase usage, just with some of them being free from time to time. If you're not aware of how that is, you balance Execute and Revenge use so that you're always filling globals without going dry in rage. In basic terms, this usually looks like sending execute anytime you spend unless your rage is ~40; if you're at 40, you'd want to send a Revenge first, then Execute, so you don't instantly run out of rage and still have two chances to reset the CD on SS.

#

This being said, managing juggernaut stacks is RNG, so sometimes it'll just drop with nothing you can do. You then proceed to cry and wipe the raid so you can try again on your parse.

or something like that

#

For class talent tree picks, it's always fight specific, but

There's not really anthing you can move to get any notable value. Intervene isn't even really that useful in raid that much. There's just not much else you can grab. It would've been nice to get points in cruel strikes for some free crit, but it's locked behind the last gate, so it's banned to get

#

You'll always want to keep in mind Intimidating Shout (6 target fear) and Bitter Immunity (Disease, Poison, Curse cleanse) for if they ever become relevant, though. Those are probably the most potential with our current tree to be something that's a notable niche.

the downside is that disease, poison, and curse cleans can even be brought by DPS specs, so it's not that useful, and Int Shout is a target capped fear, meaning it can't even hit everything in a large target scenario, and current cast design means it doesn't do much to help with controlling casts

#

so they're also not likely to be relevant as a result

#

And for your BSV comment, yes. Since you're a BDK, you should also likely be familiar with how it works, as well, since damage that goes into BSV works Will of the Necropolis style, as well. Any damage that would have hit you past its threshold, you take the reduce damage on.

#

So you are extremely unlike to be killed through BSV. In exchange, it can potentially activate early by you hitting a point where you dip that low, but aren't actually in danger

#

You can also swap out Show of Force for Disrupting Shout if you ever need it; it feels bad, but SoF is just a small amount of free damage. Just do remember that Disrupting is an AOE interrupt, not a proper silence, so you have to put effort in the get full value out of it
