Hi - first week playing wow and I have a +2 for review. Any feedback is greatly appreciated 😄 Let me know if the link doesn't work

Things i'm actively trying to improve on

  1. Pulls - if Im doing a larger pull, sometimes i lose agro and a few monsters would attack my team and I lose time trying to repull agro on those few monsters
  2. Magic shields - lacking dungeon knowledge, i can read more on abilities
  3. Overcapping - i can use more practice on spending rage efficiently, but I think that will come with more comfort with the class
  4. Darkflame - During the tunnel trash, I was takinga lot of DOT, i can avoid that, but need to learn the mechanics

A good rule of thumb for #2 is to just send spell reflect anytime something starts casting at you. If it doesn't reflect, you at least just get the DR out of it. SR has a short enough CD that you can just send it like that and have it available for whenever you do need it.

For #4, that's just kind of how it goes. The dot stacks up on the Creeper mobs specifically on auto-attacks. You can also reflect one application, as well, with SR. But other than getting mega lucky with crits, you're going to have to reset stacks at some point by kiting, generally via leaping out and running for a bit. You might want to have a CD ready for when you leap out, since you can't maintain punish/generate rage for IP/etc when at range.

Also of note is the below buff:

#

The creepers were getting a lot of that Eater of the Dead buff. You need to pull them away from corpses, or else they start mega trucking with everything they do. They already hurt a lot, so you really don't want them to murder you harder.

#

It looks like each section of creepers you fought stacked up to 5 stacks at the highest, with a point where you fought three creepers at once with each getting multiple stacks. That'll be how you get absolutely blasted by those guys. You already want to aim to pull as few as possible since they make your life unavoidably worse compared to other trash in the dungeon (A lot of the other trash has things you can easily control their damage output via interrupts or at least don't require you to do awkward kiting in small spaces)

#

As an aside for #3, while you are overcapping some rage, you also appear to actually be undersending TC? I would guess it's happening in ST, but I'd have to look deeper to check. You bottom out on rage a little often at points, and it's possible you might be letting rend drop, as well.

#

So your rage gen actually could potentially go up

#

Yeah, in a shorter DFC I did, with just about the same gear level, I did literally just shy of three times the amount of rend damage

#

So I'm fairly positive you're letting rend drop off

That's specifically for sending TC with Outburst

awesome, i appreciate it a lot!

hi daniel, youve already gotten good specific advice so ill just share something i do myself to help find holes in my gameplay

if you go to your logs, theres a "cast" tab and you can find your cpm (casts per minute) of spells. you can find another prot warriors darkflame cleft and compare his cpm to yours and while there will naturally be differences in it because the pulls in highest keys are way different, its still a great indicator.

heres the cpm page for a high level prot warrior in dfc https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/nTKkahc9mgRHx6t2?fight=4&type=casts&source=13

honestly most of this game comes down to "hit your buttons" until youre pretty highly rated, and this cpm is a great way of knowing if youre hitting your buttons.

some abilities you could probably hit more based on the cpm page

  • shield slam (important)
  • thunder clap (important)
  • ignore pain (very important)
  • demolish
  • most other small cooldowns like shield charge
#

you might want a weakaura to know if youre ignore pain is capped or not btw, i dont think the base ui has a good way of telling you if you are maxed ignore pain already or not?

fierce frost
#

thanks! that's helpful will use in the future. im using quazii's warrior WA right now.

#

although i don't think ive ever capped ignore pain 😛 i just spam revenge

narrow knot
#

That's not likely to happen as Colo, since you press it less often than Thane, but ensuring the rage keeps flowing gives more benefits that wasting any rage trying to optimize miniscule amounts of DR in the long run

fierce frost
#

is this the best way to find someone to compare too?

#

or should i look at the leaaderboard?

night lichen
#

your SB uptime is very bad

#

manage SB better

night lichen
#

get closer to 100% shield block uptime

#

60% needs a lot of work

#

creeping shadow will no longer be an issue since it was made dispellable yesterday

night lichen
#

work on what Luerce mentioned and your SB uptime as a priority

#

then focus on dps

fierce frost
#

awesome, thank you!

night lichen
#

DO NOT OVERPRIO IP

#

very important

#

i suggest disregarding everything about IP that David said

fierce frost
#

only if im about to over cap on rage?

night lichen
#

yes

fierce frost
#

how did u see SB uptime?

night lichen
#

your breakdown of dps is accurate except demolish should be doing a bit more damage

#

hover on hits

fierce frost
#

thanks

night lichen
#

this only works on blockable attacks

fierce frost
#

im trying to get better on using demolish too

night lichen
#

so we look at melee to do so

#

pop avatar + demo shout (since booming voice provides a damage buff) and then demolish

#

those 2 are huge dps buffs

#

a 10 stack demolish needs to be done after those, to optimize demolish damage

#

this isn't as important as SB uptime or what Luerce mentioned though

#

after demolish you can TRoar, ravager and Shield Charge

#

since mobs will take more damage from every source after demolish

#

thats the gist of it

fierce frost
#

cool thanks. seems straighforward enough
