VA couple reasons why (generally) a slower weapon tends to be better.

Sunder Armor is part of our rotation from about level 20 until 60, with only a 6 level gap from 40-46 where it isn't used. Sunder Armor makes our autoattacks larger, meaning we gain more rage per hit. While the rage gained would near enough the same over a period with different weaponspeeds, with a slow speed, however it gets you more rage earlier in the fight, which helps. These added together builds momentum.

Next, Mortal Strike and Whirlwind are both based around Weapon Damage, and the slower your weapon, the higher its damage (at ilvl).

When people say slower is better, they always mean between equal budgeted weapons. Once we mix ilvls, then we look at their damage spreads. You take the low-end damage, and the high-end damage, add them together, then divide by 2. (low+high / 2 = X). You always then take the X that's higher, unless they're both very close but the lower one has significantly better stats. (For example, you'd take a tiny X loss if it meant getting an Axe with Str over a Staff with Int.)
So taking that into consideration, you are correct. Take weapon damage spread over speed

Does anyone have any tips for the best ways to pull when tanking? I’ve tried using a range weapon but it doesn’t generate rage, I’ve tried charge-stance dancing-SA and that works well for the most part, especially if combined with immediately dropping dynamite, but does anyone else have any tips? I’m still under level 30 but looking for any advice to get better at pulling.

Outlevel the dungeons you are in. Don’t move onto the next one until you are higher lvl than all the mobs. Makes keeping threat possible.

Don’t forget that you need to take damage to help generate rage. The more rage, the talents you can use, generating more threat. Sometimes you just gotta let mobs beat on you for a couple of beats. You can also make a macro letting the group know when to start attacking.

When dpsing on my warrior, I’ll often tell the tank I’m going to pull something off him on a big pull so he takes less damage and I can generate some rage for sweeping strikes, cleave and execute. Usually when a mob runs away and pulls another group. Especially when playing shouts bitch.

This is my issue a lot. I like to control things as the tank and most of the time you cannot. Letting go and just making sure to taunt off the healer and not the dps makes things a little easier when they pull off you immediately.

Communicate with the party, let them know your quirks. If I’m full and have melee dps with me I’ll maybe pull a 1 mob pat to clear while the casters are drinking and if I don’t let them know it’s fine they panic, stop drinking to heal or dps.

You have to regain threat in P3 and give the tanks allot of time (retail players need to actually listen and not wait 2sec) its going to take some time. Why? because the entire time you guys are dealing with the adds, the ranged and healers are still gaining aggro by hitting ony flying and healers doing their thing.

I’m lvl 57 wondering when and what kind of fury spec to swap to once I’m 60. Do I just go some dw variation and throw on some 1 handers? Also my guild seems to be favoring warlock curses over warrior deep wounds so I’m looking for something other than the 17/34 I was originally planning to use.

Pretty much everyone still uses deep wounds. I dont have it in my current spec but will eventually swap to it. Deep wounds is low priority and gets pushed off easily. But does anyone really care about warlocks? He your raid leader? Haha

Have Ravager macroed to Battle and Zerker stance. When swapping between them it equips the Ravager´s Shield

The reason the macros get screwed up with equip macros that don't specify equipslot ID is that the default behavior of equipping an item that can fit into more than one slot (rings, trinkets, one-handers) is that the code will opt to replace the lowest item level item first.

#

So if you're intending on swapping main-hand slot without specifying slot 16, and your off-hand is lower item level of your two currently equipped weapons, it will swap that item with your offhand instead.

If I assign equipslot for Ravager and pressing another macro where it asks to equip it. It automatically tries to equip the Ravager's Shield instead because of the name, saying it cannot equip that in that slot.

This is bad advice. The armor difference is only rarely going to be more valuable than killing a mob faster by having more strength and agility. In open world questing, itemization beats armor. In dungeons it more or less does, too, unless you're an explicit prot tank.

@kindred turret I suspect Dreadforge Retaliator off emperor in BRD is better than either of those because of a combination of it's very low speed, it's exceptional stats (1% crit and 30 AP) and the fact that you can spec into axe specialization with a 2h fury build but not polearms.

So I’ve spent levels 49-57 now doing arena and still no sgc. I started adding anger runs in there on some of them at like 54 and still no hoj either. Not a lot of exp in these either, so I’ve ran it a lot. I don’t want to give up but I also don’t want my entire classic career to be farming arena. What a pain.

@digital venture are you new here? that was the best advice you could get. just play the standard specs because they are considered standard for good reason instead of trying to make these garbage specs work. you can off-tank everything in any of the standard Arms/Fury/Prot specs. no reason to do weird stuff.

If you have the gold to respec talents, it won’t hurt much. If you might switch weapons soon, consider not using one of those tiers until 60.

You could also put the 2 from imp HS into deflection (doesn’t hurt when OT or pulling a mob off the tank) then 1 in imp charge. Or 1 in imp OP if you prefer that route and stance dance more than charge in. Then Anger management and fill out impale.

A good thing about classic talent trees is that as long as you hit the must-have talents, you have some flexibility in fillers depending on your playstyle.
It’s not going to break the game one way or another if say you take 1 point in imp OP or 1 in imp Charge.

you use it to stop rage capping, that's about it

eventually your rage gen is high enough to use it often but at that point making it more efficient doesnt matter

also there's a bug with HS where you can cast it/ then cancel the action but the next attack still counts as an ability when calculating the hit rating

Has anyone tanked Shade of Eranikus in Sunken Temple? His ability deep slumber is being cast on the tank 100% of the time despite guides saying it’s supposed to be second in threat. Is it bugged? i heard that with 1.13 they mostly normalized the raw weapon dmg so that super slow weapons of lower quality were no longer that powerful
it was further nerfed again in later patches where it made no difference, but in the compromised state it's in now do yall generally just get the weapons with the best stats/dps and not try that hard to get the slowest weapons possible for cleave since it's been mostly normalized to speed vs dmg?

It's still technically pre-bis for humans, not so much for non-humans. Probably not worth to farm as fury dps and I'd rather aim for Dal Rends instead. But if you're tanking as human it could be an option to get it instead of taking a raid weapon (viskag, brutality or dagger route) from your melee. I'd say it becomes even more worth as fury/prot tank to have Ironfoe as a DW option. Then again, my logic for Ironfoe for a tank also applies for Dal Rends 🙂

That being said, 99% of players will manage more than fine with standard sword/board prot spec with Mirah's as human or something like Serathil as orc for the this phase and as we begin to move into BWL and your tps start bottlenecking your raid it will be time to pick up a stronger MH from raid. So don't stress it out too much right now and focus on play>consumables>gear.

I don’t bother with thunderclap. And if I find I have to use a shield more often I just swap some dps gear out. Keeps my average damage much higher and threat easier.

using morthrang's rotation there's no real benefit going 31 Arms I'm guessing? cuz MS isn't a big part of the picture. Unless we're staying in 2H 90% of the time except for bosses, only going 2H for the WW cycles i think would favor not getting the last point in any tree

mostly arms but some prot to get better blocks/more revenges would end up better if we're using a shield 80% of the time. Sounds like a pretty good happy medium since a lot of the dmg advantage of 2h is during the WW/SS windows

I use21/30 for ss and flurry. Great dungeon build using a 2h. And works well st if you have a shaman. Thoroughly enjoy trashing everyone’s dps even in harder stuff where I have to use a shield 1/3 the time. Beating other wars with ms and similar gear. Dfr 2h and rivenspike 1h.

I do what most arms people do. Charge, SS, into beserker stance ww, pop sunders and cleaves, I through beserker rage and our other rage gen ability in there when it's up, before ss if I don't have rage for ss, or before, usually zerk rage before ww. If I'm tanking and going to be getting hit hard, I'll go into def after ww for the sudners and cleaves. Sometimes I just stay zerker stance though and do it. I go into battle for OP procs if I can dump rage before. I have a mouseover macro and have a WA for it on nameplates. I actually spend less time in battle stance than the others. I also have a macro swap for shield and def stance, so if pull is a bit bigger I just pop that after ww.

I typically have wf though, so take advantage of the instant attacks for more rage, and forcing cleaves on wf procs.

5P is good @median rampart (more rage when attacked)

For 5P you ideally want gloves, chest/legs, shoulders, bracers, boots.

Obviously chest competes with SGC so it's basically the offensive value of SGC vs 5P or you use Might legs instead of Eldritch. If you don't have SGC then you can aim for Might chest since Eldritch is easier to get.

Ideally you don't use Might head to reach 5P since it is way worse than LH or even Mask and they both provides 2% hit. You still need 5% hit for pvp and without using helmet for 2% it will be scuffed:

Might gloves give 1% hit and you can use either blackcrow/satyr bow for 1%. That leaves 3% hit to get elsewhere. Blackstone ring is a solid option alongside Painweaver if horde starting off but since alliance has access too Magni's Will I prefer not to rely on ring for 1% hit. End game would be to replace Blackstone with QSR from MC regardless. Brigam Girdle is your only option for last 5% hit and something you will want to replace for Onyxia Tooth Pendant for hit and instead use Omokk Girdle/Onslaught as a belt.
