@olive barn I finished ww at 31. Trolls at 30 I dual boxed a sham and then had a 32 Druid help me. Went back at 31 to finish them with just the shaman help. Kill scavengers they are easy lvl 34. I bought charms that were cheap then the 32 Druid helped me farm the rest in am when no one else at the spawns was quick. Then a random war helpe kill cyclonian. Now I’m pumping in sm runs and will hopefully get ravager on both chars once we get 37. Not required to do but it wasn’t bad at all and will use ww axe still on swap st.
You can get illusionary rod from sm lib at 34. Use corpse till then no big deal. My war is doubling my shamans damage that has corpse though. Shaman has rod but few bubbles till 34. I’ll also pass ravager to my shaman first in this situation, since I have ww axe. And since sham can use rockbiter with rav, and swap weapons with wf on st.

So the general reasoning is that there's just not much advantage to it at the lower levels; mitigation isn't as much of a concern as threat, more of which can be gained through the superior AoE damage from a 2h and Sweeping Strikes/WW, not to mention more dps = shorter dungeons
Low level dungeons (pretty much everything up to Maradon) can be tanked by virtually anything; "tanking" is more just "who has threat right now" than any kind of dedicated role
At higher levels, you may start using D Stance and possibly a shield more often for tough packs/mobs/bosses, but it doesn't really start becoming a priority until the 50+ dungeons

@solar estuary Fwiw, you can level as Prot; it's just seen as slower and unnecessary as simply going Arms
- Arms gives you Tactical Mastery, which means you can actually change stances, use charge, etc, without losing all your rage
- At 30 you get Sweeping Strikes, which pairs extremely well with Whirlwind at 36 and will carry your initial threat on packs
And if you only respec to prot at or near 60, it only costs you 1g

Prot does have some fun toys though, I like Improved Revenge, Improved Taunt is nice especially with DPS who don't know how to hold their dicks, Defiance is obviously helpful, Concussion Blow is fun, and Shield Slam damage isn't terrible by any means (but will get beat by MS/BT with the appropriate gear)

Yeah you can, basically once you're 36, you just open with Charge -> Sweeping -> Whirlwind and then either Cleave until you can WW again, or go DStance for Demo/Revenge spam for extra threat (TC is also good to apply after Whirlwind for a bit of extra mitigation and low level DPR)

You can tank very effectively as Arms or Fury DPS spec anything pre raid, and will be expected to Off Tank trash mobs as Fury DPS spec in most raids. If you learn to tank and get used to using the tool kit without the reduced CD of tuant and defiance and the other niceties from the prot tree you will invariably be a better tank for it if you do go deep prot later in your progression.

Overrated isn't really the word I'd use, more just noob trap, because the quest encourages people to start working for it well before it's feasible and spend a lot of time that would otherwise be better spent simply leveling as normal
fwiw, it's also more of a concern when the servers are young; once you can cheaply buy charms off the AH, it becomes much easier and more feasible to get at an early level

Why is everyone hating so hard on the warrior whirlwind weapons? I have both warrior axe and ravager and although ravager is kinda fun, the whirlwind axe pulls ahead on everything I’ve done so far. And the quest took me about less than 2.5 hours all together. Did it last night at 35 after trying and failing to get a SM farm group. Late night = great time to do it I guess. The dmg difference of stats is definitely noticeable

Meanwhile by the time you can do it solo, the are other, more readily available weapons
It's a great weapon if you go out of your way to get it, but you do have to go out of your way to get it

Don't kid yourself, Hand of Rag is still a highly competitive weapon in PvP. Mace spec is kind of funky because of some potential DRs, but if you're stunning something that often it's probably dead anyway; it's not a bad weapon by any means, and if I had the choice between taking it or hoping for a BRE drop (that other people would also probably want), I'd definitely take it

Arms was the Warrior raid spec, but keep in mind that you'd see one or maybe two in the raid, rather than a third to half your dps, and groups weren't abusing esoteric weapon procs, trinkets, etc back then either, so debuff budget was very different
Lotta reasons for that, but the main one is that people didn't know as much, and as a result didn't min/max things as hard

It can affect damage if your weapon skill is too low, if you are within 10 pts of your max you should be fine. Just make sure you level the skills for your equipped weapon before getting into any serious fights

@charred moat regardless of these changes; you will never really hold threat off Mages and Locks spamming AoE unless they give you a strong lead up (and even then they'll pull eventually); it's just the way the game works
That's why they have skills like Frost Nova and Blink though
also 1h + shield, unless you're actually prot specced into Shield Slam, does not generate any more threat than simply using a 2h - in fact it often generates less

problem with the whole aoe farm thing is it's primarily predicated on slowing, kiting, and rooting mobs in place
Warriors can't really dps and kite very well, and rooting mobs in place will cause them to attack the nearest target... which would be the Warrior
either way, not good for you

"aoe" tank is kinda not needed anyways. regardless if you are pulling half the instance or going pack by pack you'd play it the same pretty much: Aoe blasts the mobs down and you can uaw tc/demo/piercing howl to help kite and tank up the team and taunt/disarm for peels on individual mobs. If anything play with 2H and pitch in on the dmg with SS and WW.

@oblique latch I would not go DW fury or DW arms while leveling and just stick with Ravager until you get a natural axe upgrade like angerforge axe from BRD or play sword and board as arms in BRD as a tank (50+). Ravager is still big because of axe spec for higher crit and dungeon application (if dps) and saves you a respec. Even at 60 and some time I'd stay arms while farming pre-BIS , questing for gold, grinding etc and literally not respec fury until 5mins before first raid. Go for both 2h upgrade (sword or axe ideally because more pwoerful talents than for mace) and shield upgrade to help you in chasing pre-BIS while also looking for proper dual wield setup (easier as Orc imo because multiple decent dungeon axes and a little harder as human). For 5man content and solo arms will be easier and more effective to play and orc/human racial matters way less/almost not at all so weapon type is whatever but for raids you'd def want a DW setup that utilise 305 weapon skill.

Not much choice really on the Demo side. just make sure to swap to defensive prior to demoing, the agro multiplier matters. Buff agro from battle shout isn't any better, but you still want demo on the targets at the start to gather them in until you can tab through and sunder everyone.

WW is questable and very good. ravager procs whirlwind and has a slightly better damage to speed ratio. almost identical top end damage tho. both are great weapons still at 44 and you'll likely not see an upgrade until you are in your 50's

@granite vapor as like 8 people halfway explained, MS is instant and doesn't consume your rage generation the way HS does, so while it's twice the cost, it's still more rage efficient

Dps need to back the f off. If your sundering on rotation they need to react to that. Perhaps ask your healer to back off shields and heal instead. More dmg in is more rage.... I'm guilty of tanking with my 2h if i find I'm not generating enough. I get more dmg threat and more dmg rage to use for sunders.

most spells, even frequently used attacks like Overpower and Cleave, gain very little from increasing their rank (e.g. Rank 1 -> 2 Overpower adds 10 damage, Cleave Rank 1 -> 2 adds 5 per), so you can save a considerable amount of gold by skipping them until after you've gotten your first mount
Even then, you can avoid ranking up select abilities, like Mocking Blow, but there isn't a whole reason not to rank your major abilities up as the 20g you save is less important for saving to 900 than it is when saving up to 90

After 36 you can pool rage at the end of the prev pack then open with sweeping strokes whirlwind with a 2H. Then can swap back to shield if needed
Other than that I think battle shout is decent aoe threat plus revenge is great for single target
Just remember to pool rage at the end of a pull for the next one to get initial Afro

It can be a bit hard to get aggro on everything if your dps players just go balls deep instantly after you’ve pulled, but using whirlwind and BS are good ways to get threat quickly after you’ve pulled

You can go in at 30 but every mob will be 2-6 levela above you right at the start and you cant do many quests not that theres many to begin with
I wouldnt go before like 34/35 for a quick clear of the dozen quests it might have and youll be barely over the mob level

Dual wield is bad at leveling. Too much of a chance to miss or have a glancing blow. Wait till 60 or go 2hand fury.

any tipps for low lvl tanking ? lvl 20, figured to specc arms with 1-hand + shield (or even 2 hander for dungs if possible). How do you engage a pack? stance 1 + TC , then switch def and SA? Hard to get the aggro when everyones going full ham the second i pull. Dont know if it is me or i have to get better
