Sorry Psilol, it was not my intention to come through as purist or fancy, I don’t mind if they enhance and fix a few known issues with vanilla wow. In fact, I think they should. I will however say that some of those grind-for-xp-as-there-are-no-more-quests-nights I had were some of the most rewarding gaming sessions had all together. Because goal oriented, magic and steady (but slow) progression.

I've seen some of the threads on official forums as well. I don't know, why not just, let a server or two be "purist", and then a few more 'enhanced' vanilla servers. Problem solved, right? But yeah, it was more difficult back then. For a while I thought it was I who had gotten better, but nah. Vanilla was a harder game.

Recent update in the mechanics channel is stuff like:

* Extra attack multiproc works (a single attack procing multiple extra attacks like WF and Sword Spec.)
* Extra attack chain proc does not work with WF/Sword Spec (procing an extra attack off of an extra attack)
* Pummel procs WF and Sword Spec
* Shield Bash procs Sword Spec but not WF
* Sword Spec with a queued HS and instant attack gives the HS immediately just like WF
* Multiproc extra attacks (WF+Sword Spec) with Hamstring while having HS queued - you get the HS and another regular white hit
* Battle Shout on guardians does not work :feelsbadman: 
* Chance on hit weapons: work with Bloodthirst, Sunder, don't work with Shield Bash / Shield Slam

based on log analysis. So pretty thorough, data-based.

Is WW axe "worth" the time investment at 30 when you get Bonebiter (as Alliance) at 34? I am planning to go pretty hard with healer friend and potentially even be slamming a fair amount of dungeons with full group and our plan was to only take the detour for SM quest at 34.

yeah, not worth efficiency-wise. get Corpsemaker at 29 if dungeon farming (or try to farm it with 1-2 friends) then Bonebiter/Ravager. WW Axe at 30 only if primarily soloing and having support of lvl 40-ish friend / multiboxing

@crimson jay it's not misinformation. Berserking costs flat health and gives you immense TPS. BF is terrible in comparison for a tank. The only good talent orcs have for tanking is axe spec and most swords are better as you progress anyway. Why don't you not spread misinformation?

Sweeping strikes is level 30. You could be using enrage at that point. You're also missing out on 5% crit, and more rage generation. Which means more threat. Sweeping strikes and anger management alone doesnt beat out 5 rows of just better talents building up.

Even with that, exactly how many things are immune to -Bleeds-. Elementals, undead, mechanicals. Tell me, how many of those are in Westfall? Duskwood? Hell, but surely the most common higher level zones are better. YOu know. EPL. WPL. The Warpwood Quarter of Dire Maul. Scholo, strat, etc. Rend is a garbage mechanic that you will waste gold to train only to not even use it later for the majority of dungeons and raiding. And that chart had to start at -40- apparently. So you've got 39 levels where it's less useful than Overpower, and I'm willing to bet that number is -super- low pre-30 compared to HS with a good weapon.

Yo, I got a question. Is warrior tank in PVE endgame a viable choice for semi-hardcore/casual players? I always enjoyed tanking and I think I'm okay with leveling a warrior but there are like 1-3 days a week I can't play. Also I'm not into min-maxing absolutely everything, like I'd rather not go engineering if I can, just because it seems to be so much effort

should be no issue with the right guild where everyone is on a similar schedule. it's a linear game so as long as everyone's fine with doing MC week 4 or whatever you target goal is you won't miss out on anything and have the time to prepare

nothing in vanilla is inherently "hardcore"

it's all a matter of what you want to put into the game

#

it's entirely possible to hit cap 4 months after launch and start raiding one day a week and see success

#

it doesn't really matter what you play in that regard

#

being a tank without a guild will always be a bit of a struggle though as it's hard to find guilds recruiting tanks

to be fair, in a rather casual guild that are not min-maxing and probably not stacking consumes etc. you can drool along as a pure DPS quite easily. MT is always a bit more dedicated as your guild wants to have the most loyal and reliable player(s) as MT. however, as MT you usually have full guild support so there's that.

as a tank you have free choice on dungeons groups too. so I guess it all evens out eventually

I never played a warrior in classic so I'm gonna give it a try this time. I'm thinking of using this spec on my way to 60. What do you guys think? Anything I can improve?
My biggest concern is if I should put points in 2h specialization or max out parry. 5% extra damage feels just kinda worthless? Does it make a big difference?

There weren’t a lot of mechanics in MC / BWL for tanking. Yeah ok, you kite on razorgore or you’re going to fight for Aggro and die on Vael.

For the most part it was pretty simple.

In horde side none of the races are hands down better. If you can snapshot berserking then troll is where you want to be.

It's really a choice between tauren and troll. Tauren more Stam, and bigger hitbox/range. Troll berserking.

I'm personally playing tauren but it was not a min/max decision. The people I'll be playing with won't require me to generate theoretical levels of threat. So I'll have 5% more HP to help out healers(not that they should need help)

@hard obsidian I know this is very delayed but the best build to go if you are tanking dungeons while leveling is deep protection

#

deep prot will out perform fury prot in all instances with lower gear

#

after you are set with your hit rating and get some Crit and AP that is when it gets sexy

#

but you could always run in with a beefy 2 hander, pop sweeping strikes, and than whirlwind an entire trash pack and than pop your shield back on

okay yea see how they go into improved 2 hander, sweeping strikes, and cruelty? that is what I was just saying where you can EASILY get aggro on a trash pack by getting some nice crits off an initial Whirlwind, than Demo Shout, and than pop a shield back on if you are getting beat on too much

but remember if you plan on tanking it is important to use your sword a lot to keep your weapon skill increasing. Otherwise when you get to Scholo and Dire Maul you won't be able to hit shit lol

Wondering if there is a warrior spec that will have remotely any self-sustain... Looks like going prot for last stand+blood craze might be the only self sustain I can realistically get? Really hoping to build a 2h (arms?) warrior that can run BGs solo without getting roflstomped but I don't know if it's possible...

In my old vanilla raid we usually ran with 3 prot warriors. I was #4 tank in my 31/5/15 spec.

And I tanked most instances in arms spec before level 60.
