You look at some of the most popular shields and its always something simple in WoW, like the Bulwark which is just a purple shield with spikes on it.

If you equip the artifact wewapon itself it'll do the animation
but if you mog a different weapon to that appearance, no animation

Yeah, it was a weird thing. I think it may have been a bug but I know some other races got it, and it was such an odd occurance to be a bug given that it pretty much made the shield animation not be stupid
