Johny has all the gear and because he has all the gear he gets invited to raid every time and racks up tons of DKP to buy items he doesnt need
Little timmy has no gear so he doesnt get invited so he gets no DKP so he doesnt get any gear which just results in him not getting invited unless people dont show up.
And i'd say someone with the best interest in his guild doing well wouldnt hoard loot like that. But swinging from DKP to Loot Council just creates drama.

On the subject though, I'm probably not the person to ask. I've used DKP before, never used loot council. I would probably never use a loot council because I've never been in a guild I could trust to not have some bias going on where that's concerned. Maybe if there were really strict rules clearly laid out or something. DKP is fine as long as you set restrictions to it (e.g. you can't bid on something just to bid on it; it has to be something you actually need). I think in this day and age it would probably be a decent idea to set requirements other than attendance for DKP too since we have the resources.
There's probably not a perfect system. I wouldn't mind personal loot if the restrictions weren't there, but then split runs would be the most mandatory thing you could think of for WF guilds and I'm sure that's not fun for them.

The issue with splits is that they exist. They're harder to do now than when you had ML afaik (not that I'm an expert)
Which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it I guess

master loot made it easier to give all the loot to one person, but not all the loot was the type they needed
i.e, you could give them a 455 trinket even if you didnt have a 455 trinket equipped but if you were doing a leather split you would be getting plate gear
the only thing that would change is that your splits would be 26 people (heroic) + 1 clothie + 1 leather + 1 mail + 1 plate
and you would try to make as little loot overlap as possible e.g mage + rogue + resto + prot
then nobody needs each others trinkets or each others armor type
the only loot that needs to get decided on is rings and cloaks

Ok--So Suicide Kings: The system in a nutshell is that:
- you aggregate points via participation (this also includes non-raid things during raid times, aka farming for the guild or doing runs for people not actively raiding).
- When an item drops, people basically say the want it and the person with the most points losses 100% of whatever they had on that piece. They drop to 0 points (hence the name of the system).
- If an item drops that no one "bids" on, or is willing to suicide for, then it goes into a standard roll-off. Play the dice on this one (this sometimes was met with other outside shit, like my guildie offering a shitload of gold to buy it off a trial).
- This only applies to main raids, off-gearing raids you don't spend on but you do earn on.
That's pretty much it. A few things I've observed happened under this system which I liked:
- Geared Jimmy (that one dude who's just the A++ raider who's got the best gear and all the points) can't stranglehold future content via a massive stockpile of points. One item and it's all gone.
- Little Timmy (new recruit) benefits because he can save up and will eventually be top dog, by just attending. Little Timmy also gets full points even though he's playing a melee spec on a ranged-focused fight or isn't geared enough. He's got something he can work for.
- You get what you want and you know your place in line. Works especially well for those big A-List items. Person who saved for it is rewarded with it and its clear who gets the next one. Pretty transparent.
- People's actual wants are weighted. Sure everyone likes new gear, but the relative difference in the want is there. Do I suicide on this ring? Or do I hold out for that trinket? Allows you to make pretty clear trade-offs in what your gearing priorities are.
- Lesser geared people get a lot of gear by default, which also makes having less points than others feel not as bad.
- It was simple and people got it pretty quick, so less bickering on that front.
- If a drop happened to be mandated to a role for "the guild", the person who would benefit from that drop gets a "second life". They only lose half points on their next suicide (some used these situations for other types of "lives" such as getting an extra roll when going after gear in farm raids or straight up getting priority on next drop, etc.). @lavish lava

I guess the only concern for me would be like...if the item you really wanted never dropped, you'd have saved all those points and missed out on other loot that maybe would've been your second choice. But I guess as time passed, you'd be more likely to end up with those pieces by default anyway since other people would have already gotten them.

after some discussion i think i have mostly convinced our officers about it, but...
they want to kind of limit what you can bid on based on what helps the raid the most
and the officers are split up on that
some want... lets say X weapon is better for some melee dps but is also BiS for hunters (lets mention core hound tooth and brutality blade). They would want to make sure that it is limited to melee dps first
on principle its kinda wrong because you just want people to bid on what they want
but of course it will help the guild in some ways
i did research SK though i think its a good system, its just... it doesn't do anything for poor timmy that comes to all raids

i was able to snag tier since i was top dawg when i did come in. It was very rewarding, especially since the "main" peeps were totally fine with it since they were not dropping on tier since they wanted that weapon upgrade
so there's this desire to have "control" on the system which is in name of the "guild". Well, it's a pretty simple look at history to show what happens when people are capped on what they want to do in the name of a concept.....
it only works when people fundamentally buy into the concept, which is something that is very weighted towards older members. It's not perfect, but I've found that trying to control stuff can often end up back firing

if you have a hunter snagging that BIS melee weapon over it and is legitimately not using it well, then that's a person-problem not a system problem imho. After all, if it does actually increase their dps and benefiting them, then it becomes a semantical shit-show real fast.
