I'm not sure which gets consumed first in your example (most likely the shell since it's shorter duration but purely guessing), but there's nothing you can do to change which one gets consumed first.

@left hatch the reason you dont is because you dont have high levels of vers to stack on. if youre rolling td3 and its 33% of your damage and tclap is 33% of your damage, td and vers become close to equivalent on just tclap damage because of your high amount of vers. on top of which, youre no longer relying on rng, youre just getting damage. on top of which your IP is bigger, your impassive visages are bigger, and youre taking nearly 3x-4x less damage from everything.
