The thing with vers not being really useful for prot is not in pugs being dumb, though they get much-much better around 21-23 mark(jokes about Mwahi knowing everyone running 22+ keys on ally would be good for the context here) but again, in the way you play. Technically, you will want to do as much as you can in those keys and i don't think that playing badly can be smoothed out by vers.
Just as referring to your message in DMs, again, the question is where you're allowed to fuck up. Keys above 20 don't tolerate mistakes, and no vers will save you from that
While in 17-19 range you can slip through with that, but it will lead into a really bad habit of slacking and relying on a secondary stat
And not your finger overclicking TC button to death
Fun fact, but it is recommended by people like Nom and Mwahi, who do keys much higher

@oblique garnet well. That's how it works with all the corruption now. Honestly, for me as a guy who had only started venturing into higher keys, vers is literally meh IMO. I know that my main mistakes come not from survivability, but doing weird shit with routes or forgetting something, and those can be fixed with more experience. Surviving as prot is easy anyways

It's a solid trinket that provides main stats + a solid uptime haste proc.
It is also really easy to get on a high ilvl as it drops from the first boss in mythic making it a easy access trinket.

I deffo need some guidance, I'm just starting to break into regular 15s and higher, have a full compliment of 460 azerite with decent traits on them right now, and cannot make my mind up about spending residuum. I am not likely to get mythic pieces from raid, it is not a personal priority, I'm not likely to get a tank position in the current mythic team for my guild, which is fine.
Are the stats alone going to make rolling a random 475 every 2 weeks worth doing? I'm not sure how I feel about waiting 9-10 weeks to be able to choose a specific piece, but I also do not feel like I desperately need to increase the ilevel of my current pieces for the content I am doing.
Was hoping to get the perspective of some people here on the matter.

I would just get 3x 475 ones at the start. You might get lucky..might not.
Then again - for up to 15 keys you do not NEED the 475 ones and can be just fine with the 460 ones.
This is atleast how i've done it on my alts.
Just get 3x 475 random items and then start collecting for specific ones.

we are a Hc guild that progressed rather quick on Hc and saw some growth, and so are just dipping toes into mythic right now. I think there was a minor element of luck in breaking into mythic, but the guild has managed 8/12 now in I think 6 weeks of mythic raiding... but I am really not so fussed as to go through the trial process for the progression team. I am quite happy with my one-night-a-week-tank-the-'social'-raid spot if I am honest.

If you want to get rid of clicking you should probably change your keybinds around:
Having Devastate on 3 (a comfortable key for most people) and DS on 7 (a mostly uncomfortable to reach key) is not good for example
When i was using my keyboard i only used numbers up to 5.

Easiest to reach keys (1-5) should be used for your most important abilities like
SS/TC/SB/IP for example.
Buffs/CD's i for example have on CTRL modifiers.
So like CTRL+1, CTRL+2 etc
But this also comes down to what you are comfortable with

Remember you don’t have to go cold turkey from clicking to keybinding. Bind a few things at a time and get some muscle memory going for them before adding more, if that helps.

if you have extra mouse buttons, consider binding the mouse buttons to keys like shift or ctrl too so you have much more comfortable modifier key use, and double, or triple the keybinds that you can comfortably reach

Well, in my warrior's case, they're there because for some reason the WA suite I use for every other character just doesn't seem to feel comfortable to me on my warrior, so I do actually look at them. On others it's mostly like Mwahi said; they just don't annoy me so I leave them there.
