sims and encounters can often be different scenarios, with dps differences. like if you sim with lust and all the buffs like mystic touch then dont m+ with a brew, now that sim is an unrealistic scenario. if the fight has natural downtime, same thing. logs would help us give better feedback

this is a lot of the basics of warrior. a proper offensive rotation is very similar to the correct defensive rotation* as well. More shield slams and thunderclaps for more rage for more shield blocks and ignore pains spending, for more avatars and demo shouts to give you more shield slams and thunderclaps. Devastate is the least important button
work on that and your dps, not to mention survival, is going to skyrocket

Aight, so to make everything these nice people told you into one big post.
You are prioritizing the wrong abilities and therefore playing suboptimally.
1)Devastate should be used only as a filler - this means that you press this only when Shield Slam/Thunder Clap are on CD and you do not have a free Revenge proc. Currently you are just spamming Devastate.
2)Shield Slam / Thunder Clap are the 2 abilities you want to focus on when it comes to dealing damage. Using them on CD is very important for your overall DPS and Rage generation.
3)You are wasting a lot of rage - You never want to waste any rage , especially so due to Anger Management. Cast Ignore Pain to avoid rage capping.
4)Remember to use Avatar & Demoralizing Shout(With Booming Voice) as much as possible since these 2 will be increasing your damage & rage generation a lot.
5)SHIELD BLOCK - you HAVE to use Shield Block when you are actively tanking the boss to reduce the incoming damage. Even if you want to "focus on DPS" you are still a tank and should be looking at survivability as your first priority.

Block Amount
Block reduction used to be a flat 30%, but now it scales with the Block stat seen on your shield. The block stat on your shield as of right now is always 2.5 times the armor on your shield.
Block Reduction = Block Amount / (Block Amount + K)
For example, a shield with 4618 block against a level 123 raid boss would look like this:
Block Reduction = 4618 / (4618 + 6300) = 42.3%
Paladin’s Redoubt will multiply the block amount by 1.75, then have DR applied. In the previous example with Redoubt up:
Block Reduction = (4618 * 1.75) / (4618 * 1.75 + 6300) = 56.2%
Warrior’s Critical Block doubles the post-DR amount. A critical block with that 4618 block shield looks like this
Block Reduction: 42.3% * 2 = 84.6%
Note! Block can never reduce damage by more than 85%, including critical blocks.
When you block an attack, block simply acts as another damage reduction that happens before absorbs (like Power Word: Shield), and multiplies together with any other reductions like armor.
For example, say a raw hit comes in for 100,000 damage. You have 30% damage reduction from armor, and 40% reduction from blocking. The final damage of a blocked hit would be:
Final Damage = 100,000 * (1 – 0.3) * (1 – 0.4) = 42,000
Note that Block Amount uses the K constant for DR, which will change with new tiers of raid content just like Armor.

There are a lot of people that focus on the crit block cap just keep in mind that mastery also increases your chance to block, and because crit block is a separate role, block stat itself is extremely valuable period because you always want to make your regular blocks block as much damage as possible

i did Iosefward, just keep farming the dungeon levels u can that drop a shield. +12 will give u a ilvl 460 shield, then once u get it through a +11 or +12... aim for a +14 so u can get the 465 one... that was how i got my ilvl 465 shield since i do not mythic raid anymore or have the gold to purchase the ilvl 475 boe one.

You can but there is movement as part of the fight so depending on how far you have to move you may get stacks. Usually isn’t an issue tho

killed Wrathion as prot yesterday(my first time as a tank in Mythic Ny'alotha). Didn't have any issues with stacks
even when using avatar on CD and having so many low DPS people in the raid that literally extended fight over enrage(reality of casual guilds on alliance)

Sea blast is not really in your control past a point. If DPS don’t kick it on higher keys you’ll die, that’s all there is to it

Obviously some things are left up to you to decide because a computer can’t account for every situation but it will set you on the right path

@placid oar one of the best things I can recommend is to try and go into every pack with avatar up. It’s not always gonna be the case for every pack in every key. But it helps with survival and dmg if you can try to make that happen. Some packs you’ll have multiple avatars others you may want to hold cause you know you have another bigger pack coming up right after. It just comes with experience and repetition you’ll get more comfortable with timings of when you can use your buttons
