but the tradeoff is damage, threat issues, and arguably less utility

but unless you're pushing like 20+'s
tank survivability isn't going to be a factor
or shouldn't be with proper interrupts/play and a competent healer
your group is gonna be held up by other factors like groupwide damage or not making the dps required to time

As you progress into the high teens; weather it be tyrannical or fortified; there will be specific parts of dungeons (IE some specific trash or specific Boss/es) That give some tanks some issues, as far as being scary from a survivability stand point. You can get through without any special considerations or tricks until you hit the 20+ mark..again, and then those special cases start becoming more problematic for different parts of the group.

If you want the least difficulty as far as living and eating damage; I believe brewmaster is still a brickwall in keys at near every level. The next would be DH. I think prot warrior after that. (Taken from purely a 'how easy is it to easily mitigate/deal with various sources of damage)

Actually PROGRESSING keys forward there's one huge issue ALL tanks deal with; the timer. Time is all our enemy in keys; and we all combat it in the same ways; Good routing for the dungeon (personal play, anyone can do this) How much damage you do, to kill things faster (this is based on your class, and your gear..we won't bother talking about play skill, I assume you do it right) And then to the second point; how much damage you do is largely a function of how large, and efficiently you pull; Which then takes into consideration your survivability to a degree, and then what your group can do as a unit, and what your group can do for you to live.

So when you take into consideration how 'big' you can pull; prot warrior has amazing durability against the vast majority of trash and even bosses because most things just attack you with blockable damage (this now includes ranged physical attacks). So warriors can pull pretty large packs, and do outstanding AoE dps; which is why they have become such a popular pick.

And anyone who is capable of understanding how to set their keybinds for their own physical efficiency; dig into stat weights and investigate into discords to find out how to play their class 'well' is going to play any class well. After that, as far as keys or raiding goes..it's about learning 'how' to do various encounters or dungeons. M+ just has a larger field of stuff to learn, and a deeper well of things to understand to be able to run keys effectively into high/challenging territory.

I narrowed it down to VDH, Prot Warrior or BDK. And slowly leaning towards prot because of the amount of frequent cooldowns and the amount of damage it brings.

I've only ever played warrior; so I can't comment about how it would feel vs other tanks. I can say this; many many times in this channel I've seen a lot of people come from other tanking classes; trying to roll alts..trying to be their new guilds MT, or the tank for their group of friends. MUCH more often than not the statement I see after someone plays prot for the first time (after it's leveled/etc) is that it's Fun, more active than other tanks, and does more damage naturally without changing the play style or using damage 'specific' talents that sacrifice survivability.

Same thing prot has always been, on most fights you're a brick wall; but then on things that have nasty magic'y stuff you feel the pain.. So you have to use cd's and externals to deal with it..or play another tank for or because of those encounters.

No it didn't thyme, I remember those days..then the nerf, and how hard it made Nighthold progression; we got the big boost during our mythic NIghthold progression. We had killed Mythic (bridge boss..Kromog? whatever) then like a week later they made IP literally 30% better, and put spell reflect on a 24 sec cooldown.

the problem with 1-5 is that hitting them while moving, and with a modifier for sure, is really cumbersome
so like for me, i use e/ctrl+e for sb/ip, r/ctrl+r is shockwave/kick
i use 1-5 for my 'short' cd's, like last stand, demo shout, inttimidating shout, commanding shout and ect
but the way my hand sits, i can hit ctrl+r with out moving my fingers, since i use the side of my hand to hit it

S and F are strafe left and right, and I use QWERTAZXC for stuff I need to be able to hit without any delay. Use 1-5 for stuff like cooldowns and what not.
