If you and Riki were in the same dungeon, and Riki had a 445 shield and you had a 400, assuming identical traits and both playing identically, you would have more HPS than he did because more of your IPs actually got consumed (meaning less IP was over the cap, i.e. generating no healing)

Spark of Inspiration - Major and Minor potentially. Reducing the CD of Active Azerite Essences / increasing haste as a minor AND increasing the damage of the parties active azerite essences could be pretty huge.
Unwavering Ward - Minor to help with some of the stupidly high damage that goes out to random targets in keys. Eudora, sky captain for example.

- Shield Block takes priority over Ignore Pain; Ignore Pain is supplemental and will still be cast frequently, but not if you drop Shield Block to do so.
- Avatar and Demoralizing Shout should be cast on CD
- Last Stand with Bolster talented will be cast very often to fill gaps in Shield Block uptime. Typically you don't want to cast Shield Block while LS is active.
- The azerite traits listed on the guide are for raid survival. Most people don't go by that.

Does anyone have a suggest for BFA on how to gear a prot warrior quicker than waiting in 15+ minute dps queues? I stopped playing at the end of 2018. Came back, swapped to my warrior and at a loss for where to get starter tank gear.

@sick sentinel Get to Nazjatar first. Can buy benthic gear (kind of like relinquished gear in Legion but fixed options that are separate from dungeon/raid loot) very easily. I think the TW vendor for the anniversary event sells a weapon. Shield will have to be farmed unfortunately.

@viral marsh i'm not sure what you're aiming for but for starters as a boss tank you wanna keep your AM up at all times so that stuff like this doesn't happen
Other than that your spell usage is really poor when it comes to prioritizing what to cast and how often you cast it.
You used 1 Avatar in a 4 minute fight.
Only 5 Demo shouts in a 4 minute fight.
And 75 Devastates.
I would advice you to read the guide found in #268491842637660160 protection section and check the Rotation,cooldown part this will explain what to prioritize.

@viral marsh you really need to press your buttons more and devastate less, 2 avatar casts on last pull, only 33 claps, 4 demo shout uses
devastate is literally a filler for when nothing else is up
You also cast shield block and then ~4 seconds later cast last stand and ~10 seconds into last stand you hit shield block
That's a huge waste
After pull you literally don't cast avatar again until 130 seconds into the fight
From 45 seconds to 58 seconds of the fight, you're taking explosions from the boss as well as melee without even having shield block or last stand up
I would hate to be your healers

In general you want the highest ilvl pieces regardless of stats.
DPS wise you can sim yourself using www.raidbots.com
AoE simming is a bit tricky how ever since there's no good way to simulate a exact m+ scenario.
Regarding secondaries haste/crit are the best stats to aim for in m+.

Most of the time, you want to pick a choice that has the most consistent performance. Consistency in survivability goes a long way in m+. While things like Secrets of the Deep can provide really strong benefits, IF is just better overall and it's not like feast or famine.

I did run a few keys 17/18 with secrets and averaged about 31% uptime on the buff. Yes the bubble sometimes spawn in aweful positions but overall I am pleasantly surprised

Also if you're like me and you forget to log a lot, get the Loggerhead addon. Every dungeon/raid you go into at x difficulty, it pops up and asks you if you want to log it. Once you say yes, it autologs for that particular difficulty/instance
Just make sure you say no when you go into dungeons; the one you want to say yes to is after the key is put in (it'll say challenge mode). The one when you first go in is for M0

You take 100k damage, Urchin will store 10% of that (10,000 damage) as healing. If you take another 100k the following second, that's another 10,000 healing stored for a total of 20,000. When 3 seconds pass (from whenever it checked last), if you are below max HP, it will heal you from the pool that's stored, up to the amount listed on the tooltip. AFAIK it will always heal that exact amount, even if you have less HP than that missing. For example if the trinket says it'll heal up to 50k, and you have 50k stored, it is going to heal you for 50k the next time the effect happens, even if you're only missing 20k HP.
What makes urchin awesome is that it only heals if you're missing health, so it does very minimal overhealing compared to other trinkets that offer healing.

Well, I was using a very simple formula to explain how it's storing the damage. And the second part is why I said "afaik" because I wasn't 100% if it was smart or not.
As Thyme explained, vers affects it. It's also possible that certain things aren't taken into account (e.g. it might be basing the healing stored off raw damage vs the damage you actually took after IP/DR/whatever)
You shouldn't be tanking water blasts, especially on a fortified week. Group has to do a better job.

It's good in both m+ and raids but requires a proactive gameplay rather than reactive - you have to know what type of damage is going to hit you and use the correct mitigation vs it since we don't have any tools to recover from the hits taken by ourselves .

Problem is that you EXPECT people to kick so you don't use mitigation..but then they don't kick and you get chunked for 50% of your HP cause luls.
Otherwise could have used SR/Shield Wall .
