You don't have to use add-ons. They're just helpful for most people.
WeakAuras 2 is a really good one to have. Some form of boss mods (DeadlyBossMods or BigWigs) are a good idea. I prefer BigWigs/LittleWigs (raid/dungeon addon)
If you do get WeakAuras, you can import the WAs shown in #268491842637660160 which are very helpful.

Ideal scenario the healer has to be atleast 30yards toward the direction you wanna go
And keep healing as leap isnt enough to get out of range
