Worrying about a "softcap" of 42.5% is not important since It doesn't matter if you go over with the DR on crti block because a crit block will reduce the damage of the attack by a maximum of 85% anyways rendering it pretty much useless.
On the other hand if you go over the 42.5% "softcap" it will still provide bigger defensive benefits overall to you in the dungeon.

I'm not 100% sure what your concern is right now. The fact is that there is no "soft cap" for blocks that you should aim for. 🤔
Avatar is not always up . You use it on CD which is like every 45-60s depending on the playstyle.
Crit blocks are not a reliable way of mitigating damage since they are RNG based and you don't really calculate "RNG factors" into your survivability as a tank.
You don't go :"Hmm, if i crit block this i'll survive so i won't press SB.". You go "I will press shield block and survive this".

Well, saying there is no soft cap for block in m+ would mean brace for impact and iron fortress are one of the stronger traits. But it does seem to me there is certainly no need for additional block when I do a big m+ pull with avatar on etc. (and after that Im kiting, or a lot of the mobs are already dead and the pack is less dangerous etc.). So the block traits are just much weaker in m+, which would mean there is a block soft cap which is reached by equipping a 415 shield?
When I have a lot of mobs attacking me a lot of times I have a lot of instances where I could crit block and the actual value and the chance value will get pretty close

People just go for more agressive options like DC stacking for more AoE damage due to most of the incoming damage is blockable and we are in a good spot right now regarding it with SB CD being lowered and the Bolster Talent.
There are tons of people who run IF traits in m+ and it's by no means bad.
It just comes down to what kind of traits do you want to optimize your playstyle..
BoM,DC,IF are all really good in m+ scenarios.
Choosing IF over a 2nd DC for example won't make or break your survivability since that comes down to your own play rather than traits.
But it IS a better defensive option and you will gain a better mix of values out of it over a 2nd DC if you're unfamiliar with the class.

It's one thing to run something for the same piece hoping it might get Warforged or Titanforged for a better version. It's another thing entirely if you're made to do that for another random proc, and then tying the meat of an entire profession into it.

But in general you shouldn't really worry about soft caps in this regard. 😃 Just remember that in most scenarios even if you have Avatar up and the pack is a big one you will be using SB anyways and SB even by itself is strong enough of a mitigation. Crit blocks are just a icing on the cake.

So - going for that dps build. But that comes from my personal experience and determining where that line is for me
