That's really how it should work though, since you're not casting the spell.
Hover over the ability you want to check blocked hits on in the Damage Taken tab and it should say which % were blocked.

Gutripper and HmC are almost identical in terms of ST dps (excluding fights like ghuun) and the minute you throw an add into the equation HmC does more DPS
in m+ specifically HmC is always better

I just wanna put in a little opinion as far as defensive trinkets go. I swap them depending on keys/affixes, who I'm running with, and with bursting the way it is I highly value the extra defensive. Next week you'll likely see me run none of them and just run damage trinkets. It's also a nice cover for mistakes that aren't incredibly lethal but could put you behind and helps when learning interactions with keys/affixes etc. Both sides have their place, it's just dependent on situation really.
