Hey guys, i had been thinking in starting tanking m+ (I have done +24s before the artifact empowerement in 7.3.5 as DPS, and +15s as dps on 8.0 so im not completely clueless on dungeon mechanics, pulling, etc). Is prot a beginner friendly spec for pugging my way to +15s (in order to get a group after with a higher score)?

coming from doing most my "real" tanking from wrath ->like... 2 weeks ago, prot takes more thinking, and knowledge of damage patterns to do good when pulling at my limit, ymmv as well.
with bdk it was basically "have enough RP to deathstrike" and i was gonna be "ok" 😄

Done some +8s/9s on my VDH during beta and the first week of m+ live. (VDH just felt so squishy after spending all the demon spikes, that was the reason i kinda step out of my first steps on tanking)

The question im kinda asking is: After i know what are my limits on the pulls, how much will i still need a competent healer?

Protection is not a beginner friendly tank like BDK or BrM

You need a competent healer, but we're pretty tanky as well. You can watch some of Sense's VoDs if you want to get an idea of what to expect in higher keys (he does 18s/19s pretty regularly). That being said, you can't just be a newbie tank and jump in with a prot warrior. You mess up, you're going to feel it.
If you want something with more wiggle room, BrM isn't a bad choice; though again, they have low self-sustain so you'll still need a decent healer.

if you start in heroics and just learn how you work there, or have a pocket healer and learn in m0 or m2 you should be able to learn pretty quickly, but it isn't a "supereasymode" tank.
