Without reading the entire days worth of backlog here; have any solidified changes been locked in on beta for us yet?
Someone have the awnser of why did they change mastery ? She wasn't overpowered no ?
William don't worry about the changes to mastery until the patch actually hits, what tooltips show in beta fluxuates greatly to live. And if they bone us...what will we do? what warriors always do...keep finding a way to be useful.
I was wondering if anything had actually been finalized but I'm guessing the answer is no.

our mastery is extremely inconsistent, which is really bad in the current tank structure of bfa
Guilford as legion progressed and we got up to having the ability to have around 50% (with really good itemization) mastery...the RNG factor largely falls away, and you critically block ...a lot ๐

the way tanks as a whole operate are different and the structure of tanking swayed, right now inconsistency is pretty bad
stacking more mastery right now would kind of be gimping your self at both the cost of haste and ilvl to do so more than likely
Inconsistency is simply a different word for what it has always meant "spikey" and yes, spikey tanking is scary tanking...and it makes it poor for situations where you're trying to build a tightly tuned strategy (mythic raiding).
Iron; absolutely...because there simply isn't enough mastery to go around...hence why we could only have good haste and 45~50% mastery at the end of legion.
spiky doesnt exactly relate to inconsistency, there have been times where you knew the tank would spike, our mastery mostly revolves around rng, which is a nightmare honestly

Where we are at right now is that Blizzard have given us the recognition that we are not in a good place (not to be confused with in a bad place).
They have said that in the next few weeks there will be bandaids put on us to "not solve all protection warrior problems but to see us through to the next tuning pass"
Meaning there will be two instances of us getting buffed / changed.
All the data mining stuff will likely be the 8.1 changes and I'd just ignore them for now as its no where near complete.
I would expect a numbers change in the interim however - could be armor, stam, IP value or something that just helps by changing a number (or a few numbers hopefully). We won't see anything mechanically different in the initial change.

Dont we always Str pot as str gives you armor and stam and damage

Really depends on what kinda damage you're taking
The normal and sensible assumption is that a purely defensive potion would be better to use defensively than a raw STR potion. But I don't think that's the case lol.
If you were getting fully melee'd in that time then it would likely pull in front. STR is ALWAYS useful and Steelskin is sometimes useful so i guess we just run strength.
If the dmg is so high that ip gets eaten up quickly even with shield block up (which is why youd consider potting) then I'd pot armor if it's all physical

shouldnt ignore the other secondaires at all, they arent bad just because they are lower in the order
but other than that, your strat will work
and you should really only follow the stat priority on same ilvl gear any ways

@sick sentinel your gearing plan makes it seem like if you have two 370 pieces with no haste you'll just throw one on at random since they don't have haste

it gained value after losing BC, but just the other stats are better
crit is mathematically the most powerful defensive secondary stat
I said I do not care because they are more or less the same power level
but it's rng which is why it's at the bottom

i still believe that Prot Warriors need to have 2 hander and shield by default. We are the weapon masters with titanic grip. Have a ability that drops you into a shield up and you stab forward while moving forward and pushing mobs back

Honestly, I levelled and geared up a paladin (for healing, but I end up tanking most of the time) and it really doesn't feel any tougher than warrior. sure, I can heal myself and let the healer DPS a bit more, but warriors do more damage by themselves, so it kinda evens out.
They literally said they are buffing us.
Going Druid would not feel that great to me because they feel barely in a better condition than warriors

There are classes that are better than us in terms of surviving or utility
Ofc they will take somebody else for a top tier leaderboards run
Pushing the high keys is also largely about player skill and the entire group
Few of those groups are pugs
A good tank has multiple tanks ready most of the time
Top players will pick what is most efficient and effective

With 6 specs and only 1 tank slot in 5 mans, the choice is usually narrowed down to 2 specs

my two healer friends - disc priest and resto shaman - say they have a pretty easy healing me, except sometimes I take a large spike of damage out of nowhere. but by now I pretty much know which pulls will cause those large spikes and use CDs appropriately.
I didn't say I'll abandon my warrior. I'd jsut sub the monk in where appropriate for my raid.

@round vortex that's a legitimate viewpoint, but playstyle also factors a lot into the classes that I play. Holy priest can consistently be the strongest healer, but I'll never play one because I find them very dull.

Monk is also fun because it is unaffected by GCD. And we started mythic prog, and i feel 200% better and safer on my 352 monk than on my 360 warrior. Healers loved it more as well.

Freehold was pretty easy even before teeming nerf, now should be cakewalk
I'd say the easiest m+ this week are Motherlode, Waycrest and... Hm. Not sure about the last one. Underrot isn't awful after the matron nerf but the timer is tight
shrine isn't too bad if you have a good group but still takes awhile

@upbeat folio I dont know what is deal with mastery on PTR. Block should be more consistent about damage types for sure, but if they remove crit block, they better give us something good.
@iron forum yeah i myself prefer fast classes. Still Legion Fury > BfA Fury feels wise. Prot was machinegun keyboard, now it is slow and heavy. Only fluid and fast tanks are BM and Vengeance.

personal loot change is such garbage. past all the logistical problems, I feel like a core part of the satisfaction of the mmo is being able to actually loot the boss you spent hours trying to kill and see whatever shinies he dropped, not just have stuff magically appear in your inventory
definitely, I just got back into raiding after readjusting my work schedule and killed my first boss in mythic and it just wasn't the same without everyone crowded around looting the boss and shit getting linked in chat. I just feel like that change really hit an emotionally satisfying aspect of raiding really hard

you can choose the affix combo/key level
mobs/bosses will change accordingly
the best part for me, is that i can plan routes/see the mobs's hp etc beforehand. so i dont need to try thigns mid run

I've been in scenarios where the DPS taunting and popping a defensive is helpful if the tank is taking massive damage, though. Having a pally taunt and bubble for 5 seconds is nice if the healer needs to catch up

You use your rage offensively on Revenge (43 casts) rather than defensively on Ignore Pain (9 casts).
You don't use cooldown enough: Shield Wall 1x, Last Stand 1x, Avatar 3x
On a 6+ minute fight, you should have 2-3 Shield Walls, maybe 5 Last Stands, 5+ Avatars (makes you generate more rage for IP).
You also don't use Spell Reflect enough, you should use it during every combo on the Void Lash:
I only use rage on revenge when my offtank is holding the boss and i have nothing else to spend rage on

Balancing threat gen vs mitigation has been a thing I have been struggling with since prepatch. Perhaps I swung too far the other way.
So for IP usage then, if you guys are not using rage for threat gen, have you guys had any issues with rage starving or not holding threat?

Not really, you establish lot of threat with avatar, and use excessive rage for ignore pain, if you taking at least semi-serious damage

Try to pool some for big hits if you can, IE Zek combo, otherwise, just cast it when you have rage for it. Make sure you keep 30 rage for shield block if you going to need it soon.
Do not overcap IP as well, there is weak aura in pins that shows you if you going to overcap in next cast.
Anyone know if leech affects Ignore Pain or is it just direct dmg
