From an gastronomical standpoint, the US has a better leg to stand on in reference to what they call bacon since bacon is salt-cured pork and and *most *salt-cured pork products around the world come from the belly/jowl

or you could do what I do which is combine the world's bacon

into one sandwhich

though mixing up the belly in different ways is better IMO

so say take some braised pork belly, slice it, wrap it in pancetta and then fry that. Top that off with some smoked American style bacon done proper (both crispy and chewy) or Chicharrón, and do the whole thing on a belly lardon or smoke bacon studded bread
