going back to the earlier conversation about FromSoftware and the Souls games, sometimes i just want to say fuck them. fuck them for not wanting everyone to be able to play their games. they create worlds with weird monsters, beautiful atmospheres and music and fun exploration, and yet they bog it down with unneeded, frustrating difficulty. they need to get over themselves and understand not everyone is in it for the challenge.

The difficulty was inspired by NES games, but fortunately those are old so they are exempt from criticism.

there are I think 3 ships

yeah, there are special quest lines with the expansions too. like recurring characters and stuff

i see some parts of the game are proc generated, but i presume the questline is always the same?

pretty much yeah, the proc gen is not very noticeable for the most part

just has to do with paths to the next sector and types of materials in each system

you might have played FTL, and while the main objective is always the same (to beat the pirate flag ship), there's some degree of replayability due to how sectors, enemies, store locations etc keep changing from PT to the next.

does everspace do something along those lines, to try and avoid repetiveness?

honestly it got pretty repetitive for me pretty quickly but it was still very fun

it's a little weird because all of the maps look essentially the same just with minor color or prop differences, with the exception of some special encounters

ok, because i mean, i sunk a lot of hours in FTL just because of that fact, that no two runs are exactly the same

It does just feel like you're fighting to get as far as you did last time when you hop back in

The Storyline is very much focused around that too. You'll absolutely be dying a lot to begin with.

one complaint i have is it does sort of force pacing with difficulty spikes

there's this weird grey area where you are too good for the first sector but way too bad for the next one

i had to do like 4 or 5 runs dying against the same 3 or 4 ships at a certain point just to upgrade enough to survive

after some time some really OP ships will show up and be hard to linger about with

if you get really good you can just take them out when you're too good for a section but ultimately there's not like an infinite source of credits anywhere
