Huh, finally got around to trying the new Staxel update and I'm not sure what they did, but it runs way more smoothly for me now.
Still takes its sweet time loading up the first time, but past that, smooth sailing.
May get around to giving it more of a fair shake now. Before the update it seemed like the game would stutter a bunch every so many steps, even without sprinting around.

-self-destructive bases that are like plateau bases except exhausted resources mean they just gradually die off/implode

oxygen obviously, but then oxygen can be cold or hot, temperature's like the second most important thing, cause because of it, everything either functions properly, or dies horribly.
and balancing this bullshit is almost impossible, apparently heat isn't easily dispersible on this cursed rock.
You find a ice biome, some ice warts, aka cooling plants, plant them in heated areas to cool things off, nope, it's past boiling point, they ded now, son.
Snowball effect, only it starts the moment you land through this teleporter. 😄

Two, you can make a perfectly viable ship out of iron, carbon and steel. These three elements are the most common in asteroids and belts and are all Tier 0 rank. As you build more complex systems, their tiers go up

You can not make a Tier 1 ship until you have made a Tier 0.
The resources to make a Tier 1 require you to go to a system you do not start in and must "Rift" to.
So don't build a ship using anything green or blue

I have not played space engineers much, but I'm going to say no.
I have played space engineers maybe an hour...I hated it.
If anything, this is simpler than space engineers
Two issues while building a ship are going to throw you. Those are power consumption and fuel consumption.
I never quite got the hang of balancing power properly, and ended up making ships with way too much power, which meant I ate a ton of fuel...and increased my mass beyond necessary spec
More mass=more fuel to move.
There is a formula for fuel efficiency, but I don't know it.
Fuel is easy to get. It's hydrogen, made by processing water.
Also as a new player, I recommend your first character be on the Hurl station to start

It's a mining station, access to all of the resources to make your own ship for free
Oxygen, yes and it serves three purposes
There's an oxygen generator in your ship required for you to breathe.
You feed it oxygen, it maintains your life support, slowly produces carbon (that you can recycle to other crafting things) and if a fire breaks out, in a pinch you can kill the oxygen on the ship to put it out
Fire uses oxygen so inversely, turning it off means no fire
Your suit has a built in oxygen tank that's good for a while, even with no oxygen on the ship
I never played any pvp. So I can't speak to that.

I would say, end-game you're basically gathering parts to make a better ship. There's really nothing beyond making your ship. No story. All of the mechanics are built around creating limits and gaps between elements of ship building.
It's not a bad game if you want to manage a ship resources and don't mind that. It's pretty chill. It has some redeeming qualities especially as a co-op ship management game if you have someone else to play with, but beyond running the day-to-day of ship maintenance and construction, the game has nothing else to it.
The developers have talked about other systems for consideration, but really, I don't see a future with the game getting much more complex than it is. This was the first game out of college.
It's a passion project.
I expect that they'll one day just stop running the PVE servers and leave MP up to private servers and steam friends etc
It will just disappear into the ether like so many games before it.
