From my POV, this is how I understand. A developer who has been previously known for amazing games comes out and says “look at this cool space game, I’ll make this if you give me some money” people give him money, a shit ton of money, an unprecedented amount of funding. They get to work. The main developer is very good, when kept in check by others. However, there is no higher up so there isn’t anyone to keep him in check. He keeps promising things. First deadline comes and the game isn’t ready, ok that’s normal. Then more come and go. They are still selling ships for real life money during this time (which cost a lot as well). People are starting to realize that it might not come out and they already spent a lot of money, they start to complain but nothing happens. More deadlines come and go. It seams to a lot of people they aren’t doing anything. During this time there was a policy that allowed the employees to work on other projects, further slowing development. Now the latest I personally heard from them was a roadmap of a roadmap, suggesting very little development during 8 years

Okay okay you're doing something that I encounter a lot which is an issue of something that sounds plausible but isn't really.
First off, the term is scope creep so I'll just run with that. People think things are scope creep in SC because people think there are features that weren't originally planned but always were in the grand scheme of things.
The hard truth is that the scope hasn't actually crept much for years.
But they introduce a ship or a career or something that someone didn't know was planned and they scream SCOPE CREEP!... except it was planned. It may not have been detailed or even mentioned to them but it was absolutely planned. Because CR's entire vision was very expansive.
When he pitched it in the beginning though he couldn't pitch that massive scope game because he didn't think he'd get funding. So he pitched something much more scaled down, which is a reasonable thing to do.

Because of the massive scope change between the original vision and now... people really need to look at the first 3-5 years as "Developing Star Citizen 1" and the subsequent years as "We have a company, we have the tools, we have the tech... we are getting the money, lets skip SC1 and do SC2"

What I love about Star Citizen is just the fact that these are fully realized ships... with insides... that you can walk around in and do stuff in. Then land on a moon/planet and get out of your ship and walk around and do stuff.

What I hated about it was how difficult the base management system was to work into each gaming session.
Your base was essentially a pocket dictionary of structures all compiled together that you shit into the world whenever it was fancy and the game made it painful to do with server instability
So every log in was essentially base building with the same structure over and over and over
but I do like the players. For the most part, good playerbase. Great lads.
