Every arrow has a chance to knock the enemy and stun them

#

TO FUN!

crisp sparrow
#

her actual bow is fine though its awful to play on mobile

cinder vessel
#

I get out of ch. 1 and then do something dumb & get killed in ch. 2

glass plinth
#

Hrmm, yeah I use a controller with my cell

crisp sparrow
#

lmao yeah Leon

#

90% of my deaths were me being a little too adventurous

#

and 10% just finding out "oh fuck this enemy is too hard I need to recou- oop dead"

cinder vessel
#

"Hey new enemy, I should try to take them without sufficient healing items this will be fine"

glass plinth
#

I decided when i played genshin I needed a console controller that worked with cells, cost me 10 bucks at the dollar store. Little wireless thing

#

Worked amazing.

#

THen, I streak my video from my cell, to my monitor via a cable. Without hooking into the work network

crisp sparrow
#

but its good gameplay, actually makes you use food and weapons to its full potential

glass plinth
#

Hrmm

cinder vessel
#

Highly recommend 8bitdo's N30 Pro for mobile btw

crisp sparrow
#

I get sick of most RPGs with tons of potions and shit

glass plinth
#

Ill have to check windbound out.

crisp sparrow
#

that I never get to use

cinder vessel
#

lol yeah

glass plinth
#

Genshin actually made it super simple

#

THe stats arent obtruse

crisp sparrow
#

Genshin is straightforward yeah, food is food and potions are potions, they dont cross over

glass plinth
#

Actually nothing is terribly obtuse.

#

You just... use them.

cinder vessel
#

I'm hoping Windbound improves the combat stiffness issue, but maybe it has? Last update sounded like they may have tweaked that, but haven't gotten around to checking

crisp sparrow
#

ye I like its simple enough

glass plinth
#

Hehe, thats something that would drive me mad

#

For me, the fluidity of combat in a game draws me in

#

Welp! I am gone, for a moment

crisp sparrow
#

I liked Kingdoms of Amalur and Minecraft Dungeons for the same reason - it had a little depth but it wasnt minmax hell that is Path of Exile

#

and just actually fun to pick up whenever

#

even early game combat was very satisfying

#

same deal with genshin

#

even when you're just swinging your sword with your first char there's visually pleasing combos

#

it gets your attention better than just simple back and forth swinging shit

#

even if you do get tired of it eventually, but it came to me quite later

cinder vessel
#

That's something I enjoyed with The Sealed Ampoule a bit ago. It's pretty straightforward, maybe has some depth further in, but otherwise easy to jump in & just play

crisp sparrow
#

seems like I really would have enjoyed BOTW huh

cinder vessel
#

After I eat I might see how much more there is to the ch. 1 demo~

crisp sparrow
#

windbound sucked me in for days

#

uh I doubt you'll like it since genshin is like always online

cinder vessel
#

Nah, talkin' The Sealed Ampoule

crisp sparrow
#

ah ok

cinder vessel
#

Also dunno why but I have Breath of the Wild but it's not really drawn me in

#

Last game to really keep me playing at length was Paradise Killer

#

That game managed to keep me playing for something like 4-6 hours straight without even really noticing

glass plinth
#

And back

#

I definitely can understand people who dont like BoTW

#

It really isnt for everyone. I guess it boils down to how you enjoy things.

#

Personally I like games where your just in a world where you explore at your own pace. Pick what your doing for the day and the end goals are a bit less defined. I liked many of the early rpgs from japan which were of that ilk. I havent played one for over a decade though. Generally storylines are very lose, very much hidden behind innuendo and very whats the word... simplified.

#

Though genshins take on modern culture and the commentary being so connected to current conditions, cultures and such is interesting. A lot of commentary hidden under the text about sexuality, morality, wealth, family and such.

#

Each of the seven nations are a subset of national cultures, with the features of each one being interposed. Which is interesting to say the least.

#

Which reminds me heavily of a game back in the early 2000s

#

The one thing I like is how if you sit in town, almost every npc will stop and talk to someone and they have all this opinion text and as time goes on it progresses. So you get this story of the city. Which one of my friends entirely missed.

#

You dont see that enough in games.

silver sparrow
#

The one thing I like is how if you sit in town, almost every npc will stop and talk to someone and they have all this opinion text and as time goes on it progresses. So you get this story of the city. Which one of my friends entirely missed.

#

in botw?

glass plinth
#

In genshin.

#

The last game before genshin id see that was the elderscrolls games.

#

Hrmm

#

Wasteland did that as well now that i think of it!

#

In one cave you go into, you kill a boss, in the cave is a pile of dead bodies, which is linked to one quest and so on so forth the entire room is a testament of the interconnectivity of things.

silver sparrow
#

oh ok thanks

“My biggest, my main takeaway from everything would be just be careful what you post on the internet,” she said. “You never know who’s gonna find it or what they’ll do with it.”
welcome to [ANY YEAR PAST 2007]

The Verge

A TikTok video posted, and then deleted, wound up in a documentary without the owner knowing.

glass plinth
#

Pretty much

#

Heck stuff I said in the early days of the net still show up

#

I was a entirely different person of course back then. A teen and heavily involved in some very involved groups.

#

Unlike social dialouge you have with people, it can perpetuate forever.

#

Frankly, I never used tiktok or instagram. I find them loathesome.

silver sparrow
#

i have not heard any teen refer to attending a class called "digital responsibility" and it is unfortunate

glass plinth
#

Thats something the religious group I am with makes sure to teach to kids and teens.

#

Mostly due to how quickly it can spiral out of control.

#

Frankly it should be a school course too.

#

Part of social studies perhaps?

silver sparrow
#

wherever social and cultural responsibility is taught as an individual pursuit, yeah

glass plinth
#

Many of the parents I know dont want that though. They want the kids to learn via experience, rather then a teacher.

#

Trial by fire

#

The hands off parents.

silver sparrow
#

the neglectful parents
the self absorbed and narcissistic parents
been there done that got the t-shirt

glass plinth
#

Hrmm

#

Thats one sort of hands off parent I see. Then you have the ones who guide, teach, but give room for failure as well so a child gains a sense of who they are through experience.

#

Thats a bit more in line with my own parent.s

#

With all the various bits and bobs to get involved and infatuated by though, this world has a way of pulling people away from the more material, in the now consequences. When you run into people who just have no clue about any real life mechanics and sorta function in a tech cocoon.. its sad

#

I have to admit, losing my internet more or less for 3 months helped me get more in touch with the impact of the environment around me 😄 Suddenly had to inhabit the space I was in, without the blaring information from the internet and had to fix things because no one wants to be aware of a dirty house all the time. Which lead to me exercising again, cooking more and now the internet just isnt as attractive.

austere lance
#

So many choices and endings in Dishonored 2, let's see if my strange playthrough I'm doing gives me an interesting one 😆

glass plinth
#

I love games like that

#

Hrmm what was the name of that game...

#

Something ocean..

#

Star Ocean!

#

Ha! I remembered that game so well. You could NOT get all the characters each playthrough, it was impossible. You had hundreds of unique endings. With each character having its own storyline.

#

That game was nuts.

austere lance
#

Your character's attitude towards everything, the city itself and the people in it, the amount of bloodflies infesting things everywhere, your targets' state of mind, and the stupid amount of endings all change in various ways depending on how you play this, it's 👌

glass plinth
#

Yeah

#

I think some games do that so well.

#

Suikoden II and Star Ocean: The Second Story are the best rpgs for that, ever

#

You could replay for it a year solid and never finish all the endings. Star oceans also had hand painted backgrounds and such, which made then graphically stunning.

#

Im starting to realize, the reason I like genshin is the haute style design, with minimalism. It reminds me so much of Secret of Mana.

#

A lot of my friends playing it like it for different reasons but now I have a hankering for more games like it.

#

I guess immortals fenyx rising mite fill that hole

cinder vessel
#

@glass plinth chrono cross would probably drive you a tad wild, lol

#

so many characters to encounter, and somehow, seemingly different paths to take. I don't know how, but I've yet to be able to recreate my first playthrough in that game.

Who did I talk to? What did I look at, that altered the course? 🤷‍♀️

glass plinth
#

Lol

#

One of my favorites as well.

#

Yeah, I played all of the old rpgs

#

every single one

#

Even the japanese only releases on famicom. I had that console.

#

That actually was where I got into fixing electronics lol. I found a old japanese snes, the system was partially damaged. The port for the catridge was broke. A little soldering, a replacement and wala, mine for a wopping 20 bucks.

#

I think Star Oceans is why I dont mind Gacha games. I never did get all the characters in that damned game. WAY to many to play the entire game to get them

#

I think someone managed it a few times. Took over a year.

cinder vessel
#

eeehh but it's not at all gacha, it's just a matter of which choices you made to get to the right interactions. Not PULL THE LEVER

glass plinth
#

Sorta

#

I mean in Star oceans you didnt necessarily have control over who you got as a hero , random events

#

So each playthrough could be unique. So yeah

#

With gacha its how I view things

#

When I play through, I just have random encouters. It isnt a choice. It just happens.

#

I guess people who want to be able to calculate there outcomes purely through there successes and failures, that would drive them nuts.

#

Me, Im not so worried.

#

Although, I have the distinct feeling Ill have all the heros save for odd holiday event ones

#

Never been big on event stuff. Not that i dont like them, i dont go nuts for them,

glass plinth
#

hehe

#

very 1980-90s synth

#

Well, the little wireless controller for my cellphone is proving more useful them I expected. I didnt realize it had a mic in it. Sweeeet!

cinder vessel
#

they wanna hear your button presses

glass plinth
#

Lol

#

Which they are generously providing and Im thankfully using.

#

The odds arent great for character rolls from the stats, Im not experiencing that of course, so Im a outlier.

#

Still no venti and jean though!

weird moment when microsoft just up & saves gamestop, lol

austere lance
#

Apparently GameStops will be Xbox All-Access centers

#

To make it easier for people to join the program

glass plinth
#

AHHHH!

#

See that makes sense!

austere lance
#

Plus it'll obviously boost Gamestop's sales, lol

glass plinth
#

A lot of big box stores are going out of business and being bought as amazon transfer and delivery centers. Which is saving malls to a degree rent wise

#

Basically saw a similar thing in the 90s

#

Old businesses bow out, new ones take over

#

Such goes the cycle of life

#

@austere lance I think it would be a good thing for microsoft taking over gamestop. The company has the worst sales tactics ever (gamestop) and they need a backbone that doesn't encourage employees to use sneaky tactics to trick people into purchasing shit they don't want.

#

Physical game stores have gone the way of the dodo bird. The only ones I see anymore are Gamestop/Ebgames and 1UP

bronze wind
#

At launch pcie v4 ssds are similarly priced compared to the Xbox proprietary storage though. Thankfully the price of storage goes down over time for third parties.

thorn dawn
#

it depends

#

if the flash being put into the xbox modules is mid-to-high end, it's competitive

#

if it's the low end stuff, then it's a fairly substantial mark up

bronze wind
#

Yeah I mean even if it's competitive it's only competitive if they price drop to match memory costs somewhat closely as the rest of the market trends downwards

thorn dawn
#

the one edge it does have is that it's easy to swap

#

so, if we start seeing multi-hundred GB games, having pluggable modules is an advantage

bronze wind
#

Yeah, if it's simply hot swappable like that it's a pretty sweet bonus

This server may as well have been an The Outer Worlds server when the game released. #other-games was literally just The Outer Worlds talk for a couple weeks.

cinder vessel
#

it's about average imo, only stands out because bethesda's been muckin' up

#

incidentally it's also just not really that Bethesda-like in terms of world design, as it's less open world and more traditional semi-open RPG design

thorn dawn

it's no new vegas, but outer worlds stands up fine in its own right

i have a relative who is a fonv stan but the graphics are so meh, i don't get it

#

nostalgia i guess

cinder vessel

because interactions are more

#

nah

austere lance
#

It came out a decade ago, of course it doesn't have modern graphics 😆

silver sparrow
#

heh

cinder vessel
#

it's about the interactions, they're more compelling to your relative probably

austere lance
#

Graphics don't mean squat, I'm still playing games from 17 years ago xD

#

After I do this Dishonored 2 NG+ playthrough imma finish KotOR, play KotOR II, then replay Fallout 3 for the 6th time and drop another 50 hours into it gandalf

cinder vessel
#

Dwarf Fortress, possibly the most interactive game ever, is like the least graphically involved game ever, lol

silver sparrow

silver sparrow

#

glass plinth
#

Eh, i definitely cant agree with the graphics statement. TO me, they mean everything. Though complex and simple have there places. Poorily done of either kind drives me nuts.

#

Like my nickname Llewellyn

#

So welsh

austere lance
#

I require more games that let you fucking wreck enemies in first-person as a dwarf. I think Vermintide lets you do it lonk

silver sparrow
#

kinda with jahnri...if pong was the most realistic or at least fidelous (?) gaming experience on offer, that is what i would play, and as the graphics improved i would move to new games, maybe revisit a remaster

#

clearly my opine is not in the majority otherwise minecraft would be in the bargain bin rn

cinder vessel
#

だわうろふ the most broken spelling of dwarf i can imagine

glass plinth
#

I just hate badly meshed art.

winter yew
#

Dworph

glass plinth
#

I mean look at the original simcity, charming still.

#

Then look at other games of the ilk with bad art, never playing them ever again.

cinder vessel
#

Lots of high fidelity art looks like detail for the sake of detail without looking all that great imo

glass plinth
#

hell, simcity on the snes still is amazing.

#

You know thats so true.

#

Sometimes.

austere lance
#

I may or may not have over 40 hours in KotOR on Xbone (lord knows how much I had back when it originally released on Xbox, lol) and am gonna have 60+ on KotOR II after my next playthrough. They came out in 2003 and 2004 and I still love em 💕

glass plinth
#

Some games, a lot of adventure games have good detail and artistry though.

cinder vessel
#

Like Horizon: Zero Dawn, the mechafauna genuinely looks great, but some of the environments look like detail mush to me

glass plinth
#

Horizon definitely did it better then most though.

austere lance
#

Fancy graphics with uber-detailed textures are boring, give me a good art-style like Dishonored or Ori instead

glass plinth
#

Then you have some games with high detail, a lot of war games, that are blech.

#

Frankly one of the reasons i love zelda is the lower poly

#

Its detailed, but charming.

#

Granted, I love Witcher 3, detail AND artistry

austere lance
#

I'll take Arkane's art-styles over the 250 GB of nonsense Modern Warfare has any day, lol

glass plinth
#

Lol we agree on that

#

The vistas in Witcher 3 were one reason I played, just hiking through the woods. Same with red dead redemption 2

cinder vessel
#

Lots of those military games up the ante on fidelity but are so corporate and sterile in their artwork otherwise

#

They did try to be creative for awhile though, but the fans beat them back into fucking World Wars

austere lance
#

echo hill
#

Granted, it's only really fun with friends

glass plinth
#

Ah, frankly, after seeing some of the venues for Cyberpunk, Ill probably be playing that game like a walking sim. Like I did with Witcher 3. I like worlds that are organic, more or less a fantasy take on something. Even if the game is eh.

#

Just walking around in a big cyber city appeals to me

#

Same with some other games.

#

A good environment is key for me.

echo hill

austere lance

glass plinth
#

Dishonored is art

#

Pure and simple.

austere lance
glass plinth
#

That art style leans heavily on the styles you see in blade runner

#

Games like that have so much to base themselves on.

#

Gothic, Futurist, Modern.

#

I think one of the areas I liked so far, the most in cyberpunk was a run down bit of town under a underpass. Sorta a smashed into a hole china town.

#

Those kinds of environments are home to me

#

Alive, breathing

#

So hard to do well.

austere lance
#

Yee, Cyberpunk is gonna have a helluva world

#

Honestly it looks like it'll have my favorite new sci fi world since I watched Altered Carbon

glass plinth
#

Well, my worry are certain stretches of map, they are a bit devoid of life. Some better then others.

#

Ive got to see a bit more of it then most due to people I knew who did demos of it. Its good, great in some places. Bad in others. Not quite Witcher 3 level.

#

Then again I do think cities are harder then countryside

#

The one plaza though, with all the people buzzing around just did such a great job. Alot like big cities Ive been in real life. Hrmm, like old town manila.

#

Ha, almost wish I could climb the towers like in Genshi, however, that would take WAY to much time to do.

#

@full pivot You said you liked/wanted games with space ship management simulation. I think you might like Interstellar Rift. It's all about spaceship management sim. The only downside I see to the scenarios it presents are the complete absence of crew. You can technically get other players to be your crew but in terms of NPC crew there are none ...and there are A LOT of systems, managing everything from engine power, shield distribution, ammo, shipping, battery integrity, oxygen, to even room temperature and thermal flow regulators...The devs have told me they're considering adding drone systems that act like crew to "automate" certain features but they have pretty much said no to adding actual NPC characters as crew.

#

Bonus is you can build your ship from scratch and customize every feature. The downside of that is, there is a learning curve to making a good ship

#

Everything from an efficient system in small space to getting systems that work well together

austere lance
dry copper
#

You can technically build a blueprint for the best ship in the game if you're good at designing, but you won't be building that ship on day one no matter how good you are because the system you spawn in does not have the resources. You need to build a ship just to get to a system to get them

#

@dry copper not to be a bother but what was that game, where you were talking about things like transporting an asteroid to your ship to break it down

cinder vessel
#

@burnt drift I think it may have been Interstellar Rift if I read right. If it was from several hours ago, they mentioned the game a bit above talking more about what they were doing

burnt drift
#

fuck, now another game i have to choose between, i was already conflicted between pillars of eternity 2 dlc or waiting for the new stellaris species pack

cinder vessel
#

I think it's still in Early Access, so no real rush to get it over more polished stuff

burnt drift
#

looking at the steam page for interstellar rift, if that is indeed the one, it does not say its in early access

#

if only i had more than 20 bucks to spare atm

cinder vessel
#

Huh, so it is not. I must have confused it with the other game Mumbles was looking at alongside it

burnt drift
#

my only thing limiting me currently is i just don't have a lot of cash to spare for games atm

austere lance
#

NMS streamed to my phone is weird, lol. Was looking through my Game Pass app and it had the option to play it 😆

burnt drift

otherwise it wouldn't be a dilemma

also is it just me or is pillars of eternity 1, from a gameplay standpoint, more tedious than the second one

burnt drift
#

i have both, got the first one with dlcs included on gog around 4 months or so ago, tried to get into it off and on but i just struggle to get invested enough for hours at a time
got the second one cause grandmother got it for 10 bucks as a physical copy at walmart, showed her the first one so she was aware what she was getting into
mainly cause her limit to gaming is either stuff like bejeweled or wow so i know she would've likely got overwhelmed
she didn't want it so i got the copy
but i don't have the dlc, which i want
its just my funds limiting me as to what i do and don't get
... that and i have to save some more cause i only recently received my acceptance letter and all for uni, less than a week ago

cinder vessel

Very rarely says the guy currently replaying KotOR, lol

Playing Control is pretty much the aquivelent to reading a book

#

Because I'm OCD about collecting the notes and stuff.

cinder vessel
#

me but with RPGs & talking to everyone I can find in villages

burnt drift
#

i never did get that, seems like ocd for collecting that stuff really would sidetrack you from the more fun aspects of a game

cinder vessel
#

eh, depends on the person. Sometimes, for me, it's more fun to learn about a game's world than to interact with other gameplay systems.

Like in RPGs especially, I don't usually find the combat much fun at all, particularly random encounter style RPGs

burnt drift
#

i mean i can understand wanting to learn about a games world as much as the next person but at the same time, it is more exciting to do it via sidequests, or as an indirect result as you go through the other gameplay systems, instead of just spending who knows how long scouring the world for new npcs to talk to

cinder vessel
#

sure, there are better ways to handle it...not many games seem to have those better ways though, so you work with what the game offers

#

Like many games' side quests are just filler that don't tell you much, or you find items but it's referring to some ancient history that barely applies to the present

austere lance
#

I'm a big Arkane and Bioshock fan so I like wandering around finding stuff that tells me about the world

Good morning, Morgan.

cinder vessel

Arkane's definitely great about blending worldbuilding into the gameplay. Learn more of the world if you explore, or even just eavesdrop

coarse swift

Prey is terribly underrated

austere lance

I also learned after I got into the last area on the last level that I'm somehow a dumbass/genius and managed to avoid an entire half of the fucking level full of stuff to find, LMAO

cinder vessel
#

who was it here that went on about prey's load times...

cinder vessel
#

it's funny, bloodborne was also criticized for its load times, but even after a patch to improve them, I kinda didn't notice that much

#

I suspect years of dealing with load times have just made me mostly tolerant of them

austere lance
#

I just bs on my phone during loading screens anyway, so I don't notice if they're long or not blobshrugowo

#

But yeah, Prey ain't bad. Certainly better than friggin RDR 2 load times

cinder vessel
#

I'm waiting to have someone tell me they like RDR2 and not Death Stranding so i can be like, "really?"

#

I fucking swear they made the aiming worse in RDR 2 than it was in RDR, LMAO

@dry copper Keeping spare cash in a Steam wallet? I can't imagine doing that.

Story behind that:
My former boss got partially email-scammed into buying $800 worth of Steam cards. Partially, because when the scammer, playing the role of said boss' boss, asked him to scratch off all the codes and send them over email, my boss just went and dropped off all the cards on his boss' desk, saying he doesn't have time.
Once all that unfolded, the cards were held onto since returns weren't possible, and later re-distributed amongst employees in a Christmas party.

This was at an auto dealership.

coarse swift
#

Oh ffs

#

I thought you got a real fennec

winter yew
#

I wish. 😄

#

I remember a game with a bunch running around, kept getting caught up in fights

dry copper
#

I am so confused by that game shot

winter yew
#

I didn't want to hurt them. They were just stupid

dry copper

#

Turns out surviving on a desert can be a bitch.

#

But we make things work. Tillable land? Plant a farm. animals eating our crops? Wall it off. Fucking vulcanic winter, cause of course? ceiling it off, install sun lamps.

#

Yeah, Dragon Age Inquisition has fennec foxes.

Well, some of the codes have been in my library for years at this point, so if someone is, say, salivating at the thought of getting a free copy of Guacamelee, well, why not give them out? 🤷

winter yew
#

I both love and hate Guacamelee. Super fun game yet ridiculously frustrating at the same time.
Well worth a playthrough.

Fucking Fusion Frenzy

Thanks for increasing my age awareness

austere lance

I remember it too, don't worry

#

Now you can play it with enhanced textures, quadrupled FPS, Auto HDR, and waaaaay shorter load times

coarse swift
#

god

#

I remember playing that at someone's house when I was real young

#

I also had broken said person's lava lamp just before leaving by complete accident

austere lance
#

Lol

coarse swift
#

Never told them, never heard about it

austere lance
#

That Auto HDR looks lit tho, I never expected to see Fusion Frenzy look good in my lifetime without getting remastered 😆

coarse swift
#

Well if I'm being honest

#

That pic isn't doing it justice

#

They look nearly identical

austere lance

I very much wish Discord didn't nerf image quality, lol

I've had iPhone since uhhh the 3GS

glass plinth

had a friend/roommate that worked at Apple and was able to give me his hand-me-downs when he upgraded

#

I've bought my own since the 5S.

glass plinth
#

Yeah, i never wanted a cell until recently, when my apartment didnt have access to landlines

winter yew

but I've only ever had the 4S, 5, 5S, and SE before the one I currently have ( the SE2020 )

upgraded every other year basically.

glass plinth
#

Frankly, Im a desktop person

#

I only ever had one laptop

#

and a few tablets I never used much

#

I do however have a mp3 player i love.

winter yew
#

yeah I've had a few laptops, my current one is a few years old now and doesn't get much use unless I need to rip a cd lol.

#

My pc's case doesn't have a slot for CD drives.

glass plinth
#

I use my work computer for that

#

Man, im so psyched to get my new wireless adapter. The only reason I needed one was because I cant get access to the router at my new apartment

#

I got spoiled at the old one with a high speed cable ethernet setup

#

I LOAAATHE wireless

#

I only had a adapter for when my ex was here and needed it for 4 months.

#

Sucker was 9 year old tech, this new one should in theory allow me decent latency, im so going to murder everyone on OW now.

winter yew
#

this reminds me how happy I was when I switched from DSL to cable internet

#

my location's phone lines are old and shit and cut out constantly
