@grizzled gate Are you going for a serious sim or comedy sim? I think if you are a good writer, you should consider comedy..The universe lends itself to comedy and gives you a lot of leverage in terms of selling ideas (IE: the Immortal Chicken in Breathedge)
You won't have to spend as much time convincing people about science if you use comedy as the science.
Douglas Adams used comedy in place of science in a lot of his "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy" and it has the added advantage of pulling people into your own universe and out of their own...
So their perception of what's true won't work there

But I don't really feel like i will be successull competeing with Dani being "developer-comedian". It starts to dictate what you do with your game. I do have my vision for this project. It's half-serious half-comedy. If I can't make it - so be it. But doing comedy full stop would be me walking someone else's lawn and will start to demand chaging my vision of all this.

This mechanic is overrated. Transitioning to a planet doesn't have to be some incredible process and I think you'd be surprised how much people would forgive for just the ability to land and be on a planet. Evochron Mercenary had planet landing and that was a single developer. That game has been selling for eight years now and has made as much as $1,985,420 USD in that time, at near 100,000 sales, averaging $19 per sale
For perspective, that's $250k a year. More than a doctor makes...for a single dude who made one game.

@raven frost In an interview with Sean Murray, he actually addressed that very subject. The size and proximity of planets were deliberately chosen with travel time and scaling in mind, favoring faster travel that encourages exploration over a larger more expansive universe.

I was with a group some years back that was researching engines for licensing to develop a game together on and that was one of the top choices for its licensing, but our programmer didn't like it because a lot of customization options for programming purposes were hidden to them within the engine. It was a SDK in the same way a level editor makes maps.
No access to source code meant you'd have to rely on epic to fix some bugs that likely would crop up in development
and the problem is, some of those bugs may not crop up until they are a part of foundational code, so fixing them may require an entire overhaul
