You unlock fast travel points at some, and the ability to even be able to fast travel by clearing infestations out of the way

Races and convoys are good ways to get vehicle upgrade stuff. You get some from stealing vehicles and putting them in your garage too
The enemy AI in this game is funny af, especially mutants. I threw a grenade at a group of em earlier and one of the small melee bastards picked it up and started hootin' and hollerin' til the grenade went off xD
