@winter yew favorite MGS game?

winter yew
#

Oooo.

#

1

#

But in 4 when you go back to shadow Moses.

#

That hits me in the feels every time

jade lake
#

@winter yew 2's my personal favorite, but followed by 1 and 3, then 4. 4 is underrated as hell man, the ending is so fucking good

zealous kernel
#

mate, most of very good games are underrated and take for example FireWatch, VERY OUTSTANDINGG GAME ❤

jade lake
#

firewatch had its moments, but was kinda underwhelming IMO

winter yew
#

@rigid haven I wanna finish Signal From Tolva but it’s got some weird performance issues for me, like a kind of stutter sometimes. Not sure why, my pc should be able to handle it just fine.

cinder vessel
#

Maybe try turning down the shadow settings? It seems to not handle those very well at least on my end

primal inlet
#

I love that Ghost Recon Wildlands lets me dress as a Division agent because I own that game

light cairn
#

yes

rigid haven
#

When that happens to me, And damn right it does, I from and bear it

teal trench
#

Then there's the RuneScape stutters, where it randomly decides to quit using your gpu and 'hang' for a millisecond:

teal trench
#

Solid 60fps is a pipedream, even with overkill hardware.

#

It's just such an old game, with so many inconsistencies.

teal trench
blazing torrent
#

LOL

lavish obsidian
#

👺 👍

#

Oldie goldie

teal trench
#

@blazing torrent Uh... wait, what. It's none of my business, but may I ask why you're not a mod any more? I noticed matthew wasn't either, but now it's both of you.

#

Sorry. I should keep my nose out of other people's business.

brisk merlin
#

Lmao no one seems to care about gal

rigid haven
#

Oh shit, I didn't even notice that

#

I only knew Ryan had it because he spoke here

lavish obsidian
#

Me too

#

I don't know how many have left the mod team

brisk merlin
#

4?

teal trench
rigid haven
#

Oh!

#

Ob

#

My computer bluescreened

teal trench
#

o.o

#

Well, the minimum ram is 4GB, so... maybe you should be running in minimum.

#

You only have 2GB.

rigid haven
#

Yeah, hmm

#

It was running decently, odd

teal trench
#

Well, ram is weird. Everything can be running great, and then when Windows doesn't have enough memory to do something, it borks.

#

Do you know the specific error it threw?

#

The words on the blue screen.

rigid haven
#

I actually didn't read it, damn. I'm sure it was the usual "Windows ran into a problem"

teal trench
#

Well, that error can help diagnose the issue.

rigid haven
#

Time to try that again 😅

teal trench
#

When you get back on, would you mind running the windows event viewer?

rigid haven
#

Windows event viewer? Uh, I don't really know what that is, But sure

teal trench
rigid haven
#

Ah

teal trench
#

I think a blue screen would be under critical.

rigid haven
#

Yeah, Probably. That's, like, the third time total that that has happened

teal trench
#

That will bring up a new screen, which will have all of the blue screens listed.

rigid haven
#

Ohh, right

teal trench
#

Clicking on the top one, will show exactly what caused it.

rigid haven
#

I didn't even know that was a thing before

teal trench
#

Well, you learn something new every day lol.

#

Welcome to Windows debugging.

#

Did you find it?

rigid haven
#

Yup, thanks, just waiting for it to pop up

teal trench
#

o_o

rigid haven
#

Slow computer life ftw

teal trench
#

It should have been instant.

lavish obsidian
#

Another happy landing

teal trench
#

Wow.

rigid haven
#

"Adding snap-in to console"

teal trench
#

Um, what? o.o

rigid haven
#

No clue

teal trench
#

No, I mean where did you see that? Lol. It shouldn't be saying that in the event viewer.

#

It has nothing to do with it.

rigid haven
#

It was on a loading thingy

teal trench
#

o.o

rigid haven
#

Ah, It's reading Data, So it should pop up soon

teal trench
#

Erm..

rigid haven
#

Ha, It did it

teal trench
#

Woop, you really need a new pc lol...

rigid haven
#

Yup

lavish obsidian
#

Atleast something NOT Celeron.

teal trench
#

^

brisk merlin
#

Celeron

teal trench
#

Anywho, let me know when you get to that blue screen error message.

#

@rigid haven Oh, woops. I forgot one thing due to assuming you know how to operate it.

rigid haven
#

Oh?

teal trench
#

Then expand the "Critical" [+] thing.

rigid haven
#

Oh yeah, I got that

#

Just gotta open up discord on my laptop and I'll show you the thing

#

Under the details or the general tab?

teal trench
#

General.

rigid haven
#

Much like a flower in spring, discord is taking blooming ages to open

teal trench
#

I mean, you could take a potato image with your phone.

#

<.<

rigid haven
#

I could...hmm

teal trench
#

o.o

#

Um, that's not a blue screen error.

rigid haven
#

Oh

teal trench
#

That's a power loss error.

rigid haven
#

Fuck

#

I have no clue 🤷

brisk merlin
#

C o o l

teal trench
#

Is there a red (x) thing in that list?

#

Oops, red (!) thing.

rigid haven
#

Hmm

teal trench
#

Well, either way... I'm inclined to believe it was either from overheating, or not enough ram.

#

Rs3's minimum ram requirement is 4GB, and you only have 2.

rigid haven
#

I have no idea what that is

#

You're probably right

teal trench
#

Um, the SynTPEnh.exe is the touchpad.

#

The thing you use to control your mouse.

#

"synaptics touchpad"

rigid haven
#

Oh

teal trench
rigid haven
#

I should probably uninstall that or something

#

It broke a while back

knotty osprey
#

touchpad ran out of ram

teal trench
#

No, lol.

knotty osprey
#

i was joking

teal trench
#

Oh

#

@rigid haven, do you not use the touchpad?

rigid haven
#

Nope, I use an external mouse

teal trench
#

Well, then yeah. You can get rid of it if it's causing crashes.

rigid haven
#

My touchpad stopped working one day

#

Right, Thanks for the help

teal trench
#

It seems that Windows tries to update that driver at the same time as windows, so it may have replaced your old driver, and broke it.

#

That's the issue I'm seeing by Googling.

rigid haven
#

Oh

knotty osprey
#

i think its strange that the usual troubleshooting sentence, "try turning it on and off again" has the timeline backwards
if something isnt working you should turn it off, then turn it on again, instead of trying to turn the device on while its already running, then turning it off, right.

teal trench
#

I say the opposite, but yeah. I've seen people say it that way too.

knotty osprey
#

i usually see people say it that way lol

teal trench
#

I can't seem to find the "minimum" specs, but 4GB seems to be "recommended".

rigid haven
#

Nice!

lavish obsidian
#

👏

teal trench
#

Would you be okay with doing what he suggested?

#

Lowering the gameworld render to 75%, which would make it look a bit jpeggy.

#

It would help performance a lot.

rigid haven
#

Oh? How can I do that?

teal trench
rigid haven
#

Huh, alright, I'll see about doing that

teal trench
rigid haven
#

Alright

teal trench
#

It's not technically an "official" feature yet, and is hidden away along with some other features inside the cache files.

#

Like DoF and GUI scale.

rigid haven
#

Those are things too? Neat

teal trench
rigid haven
#

Ah, right

teal trench
#

Oh, whoops.

#

They added more in an edit.

jade lake

anyone here played earthbound

teal trench
rigid haven
#

Pshh, That's barely a normal-sized one handed sword

primal inlet
#

For some reason I'm desensitized to swords the size of the character wielding them, lol

teal trench
rigid haven
#

Dear god

#

That's amazing

teal trench
#

Makes the other one look like a stubby dagger, in comparison.

#

It's a white 2h

rigid haven
#

Woah, I really like your big sword

teal trench
#
It has the same bonuses as a black 2h sword, but for an unknown reason, the white 2h sword is very large compared to the black 2h sword, and is the largest 2h sword in the game.
rigid haven
#

So many jokes can be made

#

Hahahaha

teal trench
#

It's a monstrosity of a sword.

rigid haven
#

The white one is bigger than the black one

royal tendon
#

That's a very nice sword

rigid haven
#

Holy shit

#

Right?

teal trench
rigid haven
#

Just like anyone, I like my swords large

#

Oh, that actually looks pretty cool

royal tendon
#

I prefer the white one for sure

teal trench
#

The tiny size makes the model's appearance, irrelevant. It's soooo small.

rigid haven
#

Well, it's not size, it's what you do with it

teal trench
#

(Wiki images)

#

The black one was taken at a weird angle.

rigid haven
#

Oh damn, that is small

teal trench
#

Let me grab one ingame.

royal tendon
#

It's still a pretty big sword

teal trench
#

That's the top down view.

rigid haven
#

Oh, Yeah, significantly smaller

#

That really is odd

teal trench
#

Personally, I think it has to do with the White Knights of Falador; they're so full of themselves, and think they're better than everyone else lol. The "white" equipment is their equipment.

#

So, they probably made it larger on purpose.

rigid haven
#

Ohh, I see

#

Overcompensating 😉

teal trench
#

They're a corrupt militant group who seized control of the kingdom.

rigid haven
#

Wait hold on

teal trench
#
The White Knights may not be as pure as they seem. Also, the Burthorpe Imperial Guard believes the White Knights have illegally taken control of the Kingdom of Asgarnia when King Vallance disappeared.
rigid haven
#

Are they..all puns

teal trench
#

Yup, they're puns.

#

Every last one of them.

#

RuneScape is full of puns, and Monty Python style humour.

rigid haven
#

That's amazing

#

I think Runescape is my spirit animal

teal trench
#

You can even use a raw herring on a tree.

#

<.<

rigid haven
#

Oh... Good god

teal trench
#

The mightiest tree is the Grand Tree in the Tree Gnome Stronghold.

#

Yes, Tree Gnomes.

#

.>

rigid haven
#

Tree Gnomes...God damn

#

What if you use it on that?

teal trench
royal tendon
teal trench
rigid haven
#

Aww

#

Also, Fetch quests are both boring and rewarding

#

Well...kinda

teal trench
#

Thankfully, Runescape has nothing of the sort.

#

Quests are proper quests.

rigid haven
#

Yup! Which is quite good

teal trench
#

On another note... really wish I could play maxed graphics, without my gpu overheating. It's sitting at 86c right now.

rigid haven
#

Damn, I wondered why you didn't use ultra graphics, with a rig like yours

teal trench
#

Yup, it's my own stupidity for buying a Founders Edition card.

#

They run way too hot no matter what you do.

rigid haven
#

Damn

teal trench
lavish obsidian
#

FE cards are bad.

teal trench
#

^

lavish obsidian
#

Fact

teal trench
#

Irrefutable fact.

#

They run hot, and perform far worse than any third-party ones, like ASUS.

#

I'd kill for a DirectCU II cooler right now.

#

As far as I'm aware, ASUS doesn't make those any more.

#

Something about them being too expensive to produce.

#

They were the king of the hill for air cooling, though.

rigid haven
#

Ha, My cooling system is me blowing into my keyboard and hoping that it goes through and cools down the internals

teal trench
#

@rigid haven, honestly... I would suggest just playing Osrs indefinitely, until you can get a better laptop/pc.

#

Rs3 is going to be really hard on it.

#

It's horribly unoptimised, and inconsistent.

rigid haven
#

Yeah, that's probably the best thing to do

#

But hey, This thing and I have gone through a lot together GWnanamiChenMeh

#

It should be able to magically run it occasionally

teal trench
#

Osrs was built to run on machines from 1995 - 300MHz processors and 256MB of ram.

rigid haven
#

Oh wow, Specs that I beat? I didn't know those existed

teal trench
#

For ancient games, yup.

#

RuneScape is one of the oldest MMOs in existence.

#

In the top three, for sure.

#

Ultima Online has it beat by a few years; I can't think of an older one than that.

rigid haven
#

Damn, It just hit me that it has been running for more than 20 years

teal trench
#

Nope, not more than - not yet. It started in 1998.

#

It hit 20, this year.

rigid haven
#

Ahh, right

teal trench
#

And that's only if you want to be technical.

#

It was called "DeviousMUD" in 1998, and renamed to "RuneScape" in January 2001.

#

MUD means Multi User Dungeon.

rigid haven
#

Huh, Today I learned

teal trench
#

MUDs were the grandfathers of MMOs.

rigid haven
#

Really? I've never heard of them before. Neat!

teal trench
light cairn
#

good ol' multi user dungeons

teal trench
#

@rigid haven, from that Wikipedia article:

Games such as Meridian 59, EverQuest, Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot were routinely called graphical MUDs in their earlier years. RuneScape was actually originally intended to be a text-based MUD, but graphics were added very early in development. However, with the increase in computing power and Internet connectivity during the late nineties, and the shift of online gaming to the mass market, the term "graphical MUD" fell out of favor, being replaced by MMORPG, Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, a term coined by Richard Garriott in 1997.

The Rs3 music just can't compare to the originals.

So, I play Rs3 muted. >.>

rigid haven

I put on these good old .midi soundtracks; this specific channel has a massive playlist with all of the old music.

cinder vessel
rigid haven
#

Yeah, I saw that yesterday

#

It's a real shame

teal trench
#

I wish I could get "into" Terraria. The two dimensional side-scroller thing is a major put-off, though.

#

The game's depth really intrigues me.

#

I'm usually the one toting around the saying "Graphics doesn't matter" and "content is more important", but Terraria is just too far backwards for me.

rigid haven
#

It's like minecraft with a more, uh, PvE feel

#

It's fine, though. I think a few people are kind of put off from terraria for a multitude of reasons

cinder vessel
#

lol

#

Terraria's fantasy vibe (i.e. no scifi tech, instead magic & the like) is kinda what put me off from it

#

Although if memory serves it does have a sweet as hell vine grapple thing

rigid haven
#

There are aliens now

#

Just one little encounter, though

light cairn
#

the grapple hooks in terraria are great

strong hazel
#

terraria is amazing but it does feel kinda small to me personally. THere's a lot of gameplay depth and all that but not a lot of space, and the 2D can be off putting. but it's still a great game

light cairn
#

when was the last time you played it update-wise?

#

oh you mean physically small ok

strong hazel
#

oh I played it on 1.3.6

#

or I think 1.3.5

#

is that the current one?

light cairn
#

dunno, for a second i thought you meant small content-wise, since there was tons of updates since launch

rigid haven
#

1.3.5 is current

#

1.3.6 addes QoL things and such

#

@rigid haven, it's an extremely rare reward, with an excessively rare "drop rate". It's the most common one out of the five Treasure Trail dyes. http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Barrows_Dye

The drop chance of Barrows Dye is approximately 1/8533 (0.05858%) per reward spot from hard clues, and approximately 1/8389 (0.05959%) per reward spot from elite clues.
#

It's basically an item that's consumed, to dye a piece of equipment.

Though also kinda stressful if everything starts changing with time

#

Kinda like that one FMV game thing, Night Trap, was it? Trying to see the story whilst making sure you don't lose is...quite a feat

winter yew
#

What i like so much about Indie Games, it's mostly a new IP a new start of something new.

rigid haven
#

Yeah! What I like most is that they run on my laptop

#

And, uh, that too

winter yew

^^

royal tendon

Night trap is really silly

rigid haven

Yup, I prefer Her Story in terms of FMV games

winter yew
#

I'm glad #other-games has been added, whas awhile ago but still enjoying it xD

rigid haven
#

I'm not really sure if it means there should be no game talk in general or what, but I, too, am quite happy this is here

uncut bramble
#

game talk is fine here too really 😃 #other-games is there for more concentrated talk, but anything goes here xD

winter yew
#

#other-games is probably to prevent invasive talking about one specific other game like players
that play League Of Legends a lot xD

uncut bramble
#

haha, it was mainly for the minecrafters when that went big

winter yew
#

Haha, i remember that

#

It whas getting out of hand, the NMS vibe almost went gone or whas gone actually :p

uncut bramble

I didn't mind it at all. There's a lot of likeminded people here

I joined the minecraft server and there was a lot of hard work in there

winter yew
#

Ah, i see xD
i almost thaught it whas for No Man's Sky or something

uncut bramble
#

Kind of an official unoffical server for NMS fans 😃

rigid haven
#

Oh, Any of you heard of Piku Niku? It's a new game that Devolver is publishing

bright lake
#

What game should i play rn

rigid haven
#

I know little about it

#

Have you tried, uh, Hotline Miami?

bright lake

is it a paid game

#

Free games to play...hmm

bright lake

welp

rigid haven
#

Well, there's Runescape

bright lake
#

That's not exactly on the legitimate side, if you get my meaning

bright lake

lol

#

i guess you could say im a risk taker

rigid haven
#

Hmm, What games do you usually play?

bright lake
#

fps

#

but a bit bored of them lately

rigid haven
#

Osu is a neat free rhythm game, but it's not really for everyone

uncut bramble
#

There's some good streaming sites that will give you a ton of games (some of them even have free trials).
Rime normally turns up on those - it's a great game and a vast change from FPS - great for just relaxing with

rigid haven
#

Uh, Hmm

#

I can't seem to think of many Free to Play games

#

You Have 10 Seconds is free, and is kinda short

#

(and I'm in the credits GWliliumSmugMonika)

uncut bramble

#

My original username. Ah, those were the days

uncut bramble
#

Oh no I mean like why / what for.

#

Not what as

#

I should have had a , Woop

#

lol

rigid haven
#

Oh right

#

I gave the dev a few ideas, and since it was only me and him, he decided to make credits

uncut bramble
#

That's so awesome! nice one !

rigid haven
#

Most of them are him, I think I'm under "Additional Help"

#

Markiplier played it, too. My phone exploded with messages from the dev once that happened

#

Oops, I'm bragging, Anyway...hmm

#

Toribash is a thing

#

Oh! And Awesomenauts

uncut bramble
#

haha, no harm in some bragging 😏

rigid haven
#

As for games that you need Money to buy, There are a ton that are really super good

#

NieR Automata, Va-11 Hall-a, Red Strings Club, Cuphead, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Shovel Knight

#

Cave Story is free, the original one, at least

uncut bramble
#

I hear so many people raving about Crypt of the Necrodancer

#

I haven't checked it out yet

#

It's on switch now too

rigid haven
#

Yeah, It's great if you're into dungeon-crawling and rhythm games

#

The music is kinda great, too

uncut bramble
#

I think I cover 50% of that

#

So 50% enjoyment, maybe lol

rigid haven
#

Haha, You should check it out one day, whether it be through a video or playing it yourself

#

Ohh, yeah

#

Orwell is great

#

I know a lot of good games because somebody kept telling me about a ton of neat ones

uncut bramble
#

I got Orwell, but haven't fully started it yet. It looks great!

rigid haven
#

Yeah, It is! It's more of an interactive story than a game, though, so keep that in mind while playing it

uncut bramble
#

bright lake

eh

#

i think i'll find a copy of hotline miami instead

#

thanks for ur suggestions

rigid haven
#

Anytime!

bright lake
#

people are so nice here 😃

#

other discords ive been in are toxic

rigid haven
#

Yup! Everyone who was toxic was filtered out due to the, uh, less than optimal launch of NMS

bright lake
#

yeah i heard about that launch

rigid haven
#

Though we have had some people here who were slightly undesirable

bright lake
#

oh

#

who are they

#

so i can stay away

rigid haven
#

Oh, it's alright, they're not here anymore

#

One of the most notorious is a shitposter who goes by the name of one of the days of the week. Rumour has it that, if you say his name 3 times in the mirror, he comes out and spams you with all sort of nonsense

#

We owe the niceness of the community to the mods, though, They're great!

bright lake
#

Yes thank you mod

rigid haven
#

Oh yeah, Oneshot is a thing, too. It's awesome. Pick it up when you have the chance!

#

It's kinda like undertale but with no battles and a focus on storytelling

bright lake
#

Paid also?

rigid haven
#

Yup, But it will go on sale occasionally

#

Actually, Try Mad Father

#

That's free, and great

bright lake

rigid haven

rigid haven

Hmm

royal tendon

Transistor

#

Oneshot

#

Nier automata

#

Necrodancer

rigid haven
#

Shovel Knight has a neat one

#

And, uh, Cuphead has the swing-thing

royal tendon
#

Bastion too, but transistor has the best out of the three supergiant games imo

#

Just about any persona game

rigid haven
#

I think Supergiant as a whole make good games

royal tendon
#

They've only made 3 games

#

Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre

#

Pyre came out last year

rigid haven
#

I really have to get those

royal tendon
#

I do wish they made more stuff

rigid haven
#

Bastion especially

royal tendon
#

I'd love to own transistor

rigid haven
#

Maybe you'll get lucky in the whole GOG thing tomorrow 👀

royal tendon
#

Oh shoot, I need to fill in that wish list

#

Then again, transistor was a 2014 game or something, no?

rigid haven
#

Yeah, I think so

#

Oh, man, I still haven't played Oxenfree

#

Oh, Undertale has a nice soundtrack as well

#

Uh, though I don't doubt you've heard of that

royal tendon
#

The people at Night School (oxenfree devs) have a new project coming

#

I forgot the title, but it sounds like they're gonna up the comedy a little bit and make your choices matter more. We'll see 😛

rigid haven
#

Oh yeah, wasn't it that hell one?

royal tendon
#

Mhmm

#

It's called Afterparty

#

Do look into it if you've the time

rigid haven
#

Haha, I always have the time

bright lake
#

Oxenfree is good

#

i played that

#

narrative is really well done

rigid haven
#

I know the question was posed a damn while ago, but Furi has a neat soundtrack, too

#

"Thus begins Afterparty, an adventure game set around one debaucherous night of a pub crawl in Hell where your ultimate goal is to make it to Satan’s exclusive afterparty, convince him to challenge you to a drink-off, and then subsequently defeat the Prince of Darkness in said drink-off"

teal trench
primal inlet
#

ouch, not a good time

teal trench
#

@rigid haven You know that dye I got from that clue scroll? I had to go through innumerous puzzles.

rigid haven
#

Oh my god

#

You must be some sort of, Patience Lord or something

teal trench
#

@rigid haven Sorry, had to go afk. No, I have little to no patience, and an extremely short fuse. I know I was called (by innumerous foster parents) "that demon child", because I was always extremely angry and upset, and destructive. Violence was always my first choice. I was shipped in and out of so many homes, because of that - I was a "problem child". No one wanted me, and the ones that did eventually got sick of me, or scared of me. Sadly, it was only recently (maybe 2014) that I stopped destroying my own stuff. It was my stupid anger, that made me realise I had to learn how to build and repair pcs... because my anger made me wanting to own a computer, a very expensive upkeep. Lag? Computer gets a quick flight lesson, where it inevitably smashes against the wall. Idiot decides to be rude/mean? Keyboard, and tower likely suffers damage. Disconnect? Everything gets destroyed.

Now, stack all of this on top of an extremely low IQ, and you have someone who wants to do the puzzles, but is mentally incapable of doing so. Every slider puzzle for me, is multiple hours of stupidity-induced rage, where I stupidly refuse to give up, but stupidly can't solve it. This wouldn't be the case if these puzzles were always the same and had reproducible steps. I could easily look up a guide and just follow it in a matter of moments. However, this isn't the case and the puzzles are randomised every single time. It's different for every person. On top of this, closing out the puzzle erases your progress and randomises the pieces.

rigid haven
#

God damn. I'm the same with slider puzzles. They're so bad but really hard to stop just in case you magically find a way to solve it in the next couple of moves

#

And don't even get me started on the times when you have it all perfect except two pieces which should be in eachother's place

teal trench
#

RubixCube.jpg

rigid haven
#

I've had 3 rubix cubes

primal inlet

It does seem like there should be some kind of algorithm for those puzzles

teal trench
#

There is, Deluxer.

#

I'm too stupid to solve it.

rigid haven
#

There is?

teal trench
#

That Wiki link is the page that describes it.

rigid haven
#

I just rotate the pieces around the centre and hope it all works out

teal trench
primal inlet
#

Isn't a good sliding puzzle algorithm just a set of steps to get one piece to another place?

#

Yeah ok

rigid haven
#

Ohhh

primal inlet
#

Rubik's cube, there are a bunch of little methods you can do to get X piece to Y spot

teal trench
#

This is the chart and colours those instructions are referring to:

rigid haven
#

Yeah, you posted it earlier. God damn, that's really helpful

primal inlet
#

should be similar here, but I guess nobody's developed the exact methods

teal trench
#

I'm sure someone has.

#

Rubix cubes have been around too long, for there not to be guides.

#

Again though, those instructions depend heavily on one's intelligence. For someone as stupid as me, you might as well be speaking chinese.

#

I'm sure Woop can do it, though.

rigid haven
#

Aww, you give me too much credit

#

Computers and the like are waay out of my grasp, but I was rewarded as someone who knew what to do with them because I got lucky. Everyone has things they're good at, though

#

Heh, maybe you should take up coding or something. You might be good GWnandaShrugYui

teal trench
#

Intelligence is not the same as knowledge. An idiot (me) can know how to type properly, and know how to build a pc, and learn about computer hardware. That doesn't make me "smart". It makes me knowledgeable about those topics.

#

Intelligence is the ability to piece things together on your own, improvise, and that sorta thing.

rigid haven
#

Ohh, right. People have said that intelligence =! Knowledge, But I never got that until now

#

Yeah, I'm far from smart

teal trench
#

And no, lol... coding is the bane of my existence. I've tried to get into Java, and HTML, and CSS, but it was like beating my head against a brick wall, for all the good it did.

#

Always in one ear, and out the other.

rigid haven
#

Ah, right

teal trench
#

Hardware is my thing, whereas software might as well be an alien language.

rigid haven
#

Huh, yeah, that's, uh, my weakpoint

#

I could probably throw together a computer, sure, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what specs are good specs, or anything like that

cinder vessel
#

it's that big number

#

did you know FFXV is the best Final Fantasy?

teal trench

The first Final fantasy on the NES, from 1987 is the best one. >.>

Haha, Somehow I expected you to say that

cinder vessel

#

teal trench
#

Pong is boring. >.>

#

Most of those old games are boring to me.

rigid haven
#

Yup

#

I mean, I can have fun on a few, but only with two players

teal trench
#

@rigid haven, regarding the computer hardware stuff again, my knowledge about hardware is self taught, with no actual classes.
Idk proper names/phrases of a lot of things, and explaining stuff to people is extremely difficult without the help of Google. When it's in my hands irl, I'm fine because I know where/what everything is, and how it functions. "This doohickey goes here, and does this. That thingamabob connects to that." kinda stuff.

Also, the majority of my hardware knowledge is mostly Intel and Nvidia, so a lot of AMD's stuff (unless it's much, much older) I tend to be ignorant about. Back when AMD was actually able to compete at the top levels, I used them and knew about them. A lot has changed since then, and they're only at the mid, low, and "lower" high-end areas right now. I know bits and bobs about motherboards, psus, and other components, but it pales in comparison to what I know about processors and graphics cards. So, one could say that I'm kinda ignorant about anything other than those two categories.

rigid haven
#

I think somebody once told me that a static shock can destroy an entire motherboard, So I can break a computer pretty easily, That's about it, though

teal trench
#

Um... an actual shock can cause problems, yes. Like say you rubbed your socked feet on the carpet and whatever on purpose, to try and generate a charge, before touching something. That can cause a temporary "failure". As in, it won't function at all, until the static dissipates.

#

The whole thing about having to wear gloves, and not touching the metal bits, is a load of bollocks.

#

Same with the wire management thing.

#

I wish people would quit spreading that rubbish around.

rigid haven
#

Wait, really? That's pretty good to know

#

I suppose people just like being careful

teal trench
#

Replace "careful" with "paranoid", and you'd be right.

Puzzles are stupidly hard, but they keep surprising me with interesting twists

#

and it's all line puzzles

light cairn
#

sorta

#

but yeah the witness is so good

cinder vessel
#

The art is good, the whatever the fuck it's trying to say is whatever

primal inlet
#

I haven't gotten to the end yet but I've heard it's barely less disappointing than NMS

light cairn
#

i certainly haven't beaten the witness

#

it will destroy you

primal inlet
#

I'm in the final area

#

I think

cinder vessel
#

some of its puzzles piss me off because they expect correct color vision & good hearing

primal inlet
#

thaaaaat yes

#

Blow pushed every gimmick he possibly could

cinder vessel
#

The former fortunately I have, but the latter is a bit...Iffy, like I can hear pretty well, but some of it is stupid subtle

primal inlet
#

I still haven't finished the (implied) puzzle set based on sound because the one I'm on is too confusing

cinder vessel
#

Worse still, some of it seems to just appear outta nowhere, with no prior link to other puzzle solutions

#

So you get to it, and it's just like, "Wait what am I even doing here?"

#

And your only real solution, outside of using a FAQ, is to just beat your head against it till you catch the dumb unique thing

light cairn
#

the sound area is a pain in the ass

cinder vessel
#

But it's not just the sound area, it sort of reemerges elsewhere

#

And it's way, way fuck you

#

The Witness really comes across as one big fuck you in terms of some of its gameplay

#

Which sucks because the island itself is fucking lovely

I can think of a single puzzle that's solely, entirely, a massive "fuck you"

#

I'm probably missing some though

Hmm

#

Ohyeah, there was one part in Braid which needed me to wait a damn while

primal inlet
#

...There are some puzzles like that in the finale, but I don't remember any in the rest of the island

rigid haven
#

Jon Blow can definitely blow something....

primal inlet
#

IIRC there's a particular puzzle in Witness that requires like half an hour of waiting for the right moment

light cairn

Everywhere else, it's constantly iterating on ideas and mechanics

royal mirage
#

I don't even understand half of the puzzles

cinder vessel

I don't care much for raw mechanical iteration without much narrative unless it's an arcade style game

light cairn
#

yeah, the witness is more for hardcore puzzle fans

I had hoped there'd be a mystery or narrative to it =/

#

i still need to check that out

cinder vessel

Every one of Jonathan Blow's games so far is a plus in terms of the artwork, and in Braid's case art & music, but not too much else, lol

light cairn
#

i got stuck in one point in braid cause i too big a dumb for him apparently

cinder vessel
#

The gameplay is always just, "Let me just take this much further than any reasonable person would"

primal inlet
#

I mean, I like that, it's just that it's also painful

light cairn
#

i don't think it teaches the player properly a lot of the time (braid, and the witness at times)

cinder vessel
#

It's pointless most of the time. It's not like he's pushing some tech that others could use

lavish obsidian
#

Mhmm

royal mirage
#

I got that one laser thing working, and everything else went downhill from there

cinder vessel
#

I wouldn't be so rough about it, had it some narrative context to make it more interesting 🤷

primal inlet
#

The island does seem like it's got a narrative thing going on...until (I'm unfortunately aware) it doesn't

cinder vessel
#

Like you almost think the statues are a hint of some weird incident, but the more you notice they just fold into puzzles the more you're like, "Oh fuck off"

primal inlet
#

...Well, the finale area too

lavish obsidian
#

I liked the meta ending though

cinder vessel
#

Then again I also didn't care for the inclusion of random ass videos

#

Cool art, cool art, brrrpt, "Hey here's video from reality"

primal inlet
#

You mention the videos - what'd you think of the recordings?

#

Audio ones

cinder vessel
#

Didn't mind those as much

primal inlet
#

Just wondering, because that's actually my thought exactly

ocean wind
#

the videos are also really fucking long

primal inlet
#

yeah

#

also there's a puzzle in one of the videos that also takes a fucking long time to solve

cinder vessel
#

Audio blends better than a sharp cut to video with a completely different visual than the game

#

The Witness to me is largely:
-Beautiful island
-Some clever puzzles
-Okay you've overdone this
-Where's my fucking payoff Jonathan Blow, what's even going on with this island
-Oh fuck me you're really doing this stupid intelligence fetish thing to the core, huh?
-This is going nowhere but deeper up your ass, fuck off Jonathan Blow

primal inlet
#

lol

#

That was Yahtzee's description, wasn't it? "Slowly crawling up a very nicely decorated and interesting ass"

cinder vessel
#

I dunno, I don't follow Yahtzee

primal inlet
#

Either way, it says something that two people would use the same turn of phrase to describe the game

cinder vessel
#

I just know the more I played of The Witness, the less I appreciated the cleverness and the more pissed I was that the entire island felt like a hollow idol to a superficial admiration of the pursuit of knowledge

#

It offers numerous perspectives on that pursuit but says nothing itself, so far as I could tell

#

That all said...Gemini Rue and Primordia are fun puzzle games

#

And they try to say stuff

primal inlet
#

K, I just finished The Witness

#

I think

#

That ending was literally worse than NMS

@iron inlet, is there any way to turn off the auto-run when holding W?

#

It's kind of annoying.

strong hazel
#

do you have a controller? If so, I found that playing tw3 with controller works better than kb+m and I normally don‘t like playing with a controller

teal trench
#

Yup, just a cheap xBox 360 "afterglow" controller. It's a knock-off one, not a MS one.

#

I'd use it, but the bottom stick is heavily overused.

#

It gets stuck.

#

And it sits slightly off-centre, so the character will list a bit no matter what.

strong hazel
#

I think you can change walking speed with ctrl if that‘s what you mean

teal trench
#

No, it's not what I mean at all lol.
When I hold the W key to walk somewhere, Geralt automatically starts running without any other buttons pressed.

#

I want to walk.

#

Not run.

strong hazel
#

I think what he does on w is just his running, and if you press ctrl on a default setup it should switch to walking

teal trench
#

That did it, thanks.

strong hazel
#

Yeah, geralt is pretty fast, but at least there‘s a lore explanation for it

#

Cause he‘s an enhanced witcher and all that

teal trench
#

Urgh, so much clipping...

#

Ran through some doors, and my screen started flashing/shaking until I turned the camera.

#

It got stuck on the door.

#

Why does this stuff happen...

strong hazel
#

Oh wow

#

Never seen that

#

I don‘t know a lot about software and all that but could it be that your graphics drivers aren‘t up to date? I had a similar problem in AC:O and it was fixed by updating my drivers

teal trench
strong hazel
#

Huh

#

no idea what‘s causing that, does it only happen with that door?

teal trench
#

I've been having tonnes of graphical bugs like those doors; not just door related.

strong hazel
#

Damn

teal trench
#

Movement is horribly slow to respond, and has almost killed me twice now. It's literally an exact replica of GTA V's movement system. That disgusting "realistic physics" thing, where it tries to act like irl.

strong hazel
#

I only ever had one floating drowner in tw3 and no other bugs, have you tried revalidating the gamefiles yet? Maybe that helps

teal trench
#

Validating the files was the first thing I did.

strong hazel
#

Oh yeah the movement delay on turning is strange too

#

If you use the updated movement option it should adjust it a bit

#

They implemented that to help with the delay while still keeping the turning animations

teal trench
strong hazel
#

huh

#

Yeah alternative is still different to a lot of games but you‘ll get used to it quickly. But it‘s probably more noticeable with kb+m than with controller

#

Cause kb+m are way more precise

teal trench
#

Well, first impressions so far is pretty bad. Lots of issues, lots of annoyances, and disappointment galore.

#

Also, idk what "kb+M" means.

#

Sorry.

but yeah, that sucks... hope you can fix it or it fixes itsself, cause the story and world is amazing imo

teal trench
#

The graphics are especially disappointing. I was led (misled. >.>) to believe they were "amazing". Turned out - even in max - to just look like Skyrim with a high res texture pack slapped on it. The models are clipping with the textures in all movement.

strong hazel
#

You don‘t like the graphics? I always thought they looked pretty good

teal trench
#

The faces are horrible, too. Everyone looks like they've had a high injection of botox to make their faces look stiff.

#

They barely respond, and the lips are so stiff and out of sync with the dialog.

strong hazel
#

huh

#

Never noticed the lips out of sync, but I guess I‘m used to that cause I don‘t play everything in english

#

But yeah the faces aren‘t that good, you‘ll also notice a lot of npc‘s looking similar

#

I hope you can still enjoy the game even though it does seem to have some bugs for you!

brisk merlin
#

I didn't like the witcher 3

strong hazel
#

you don‘t count

#

Probably just didn‘t like it cause geralt kills scalies

... and all of a sudden, my HP started draining of its own accord. Nothing was attacking me, I wasn't in combat, and I hadn't been anywhere near anything hostile. Yet, it just randomly started draining at a steady rate and killed me.

#

I'm done.

uncut bramble
#

you might have been poisoned or something

#

There's buffs show at the top of the screen if you're infect irrc

teal trench
#

There've been enough problems so far (up in chat history), that I just don't want to have anything more to do with the game. It's to the point where it's too much, and making me angry.

#

Waste of time and money, but oh well.

uncut bramble
#

Aw, damn! Sorry you don't like it 😦

#

But if it's making you angry, you're right to get out of there lol

rigid haven

Yup!

knotty osprey

okay
my laptop is too shitty to run fortnite
fortnite needs an intel HD 4000 as a minimum GPU
my laptop has a nvidia NVS 4200m
and apparently
the NVS 4200m, a dedicated GPU, has a worse performance than the Intel HD 4000.

rigid haven
#

Just get it on Ps4?

#

Oh wait

#

Shit

#

Wait, don't you have a desktop?

knotty osprey
#

i do

#

lmao

#

what do you think I play NMS on

rigid haven
#

Just get it on that, then

knotty osprey
#

i do

rigid haven
#

Fortnite seems like it'll have very limited appeal, anyway

knotty osprey
#

I have it on that, but I was just pointing out that my laptop has a GPU which is pure shit

rigid haven
#

Or... well

#

Hmm

knotty osprey
#

it was fun for a while, then I stopped playing for a long time.

lavish obsidian
#

Short lifespan I expect

rigid haven
#

I still like the whole hero shooter genre, even though I don't play any games of it much

knotty osprey
#

it’s not really my type of game, but it can be fun

This is possibly the most terrifying creeper texture bug I've ever come across:

Good God, that is horrifying

CnU?

teal trench

Long story short - Chicken Unit.

#

It's 2006/2005 RuneScape related.

rigid haven
#

Oh, I see

#

Well, It, uh, is quite important to have a...dedicated chicken unit

Haha, This is amazing

Riff Racer on sale for $2.50

primal inlet

so worth it

light cairn
#

that's not ridge racer aeyes

bleak otter
#

No it's not. It's a race your own mp3s game.

#

Although it's more about drifting and catching air than racing.

light cairn
#

maybe i'll check it out GWnanamiRemThink

bleak otter
#

If you've got a bunch of mp3s on your PC, I'd recommend it.

#

I'm honestly surprised nobody's partnered with Spotify and made the ultimate music powered procedural generation game yet

#

I mean you can find the MP3s for most any song with enough effort but

True Randomly made music

no

bleak otter

Yeah Spotify integration would be awesome

Audiosurf 2 does YouTube and Last.fm (I think), which isn't bad.

Its SoundCloud I thought

bleak otter

Maybe that's what what it is. I only use my own songs and YT on it.

winter yew
#

Yea

#

I have it 😉

#

Like to try obscure songs and see if anyone has played it globally

brisk merlin
#

you can partner up last fm and spotify

bleak otter
#

Nice.

#

I'm the first one to play a lot of my songs on Riff Racer.

winter yew
#

Yes I was looking at Riff Racer but it just reminds me too much of DISTANCE

#

Which has a slightly different concept of ‘generated’ tracks.

brisk merlin
bleak otter
#

I never played Distance but I remember looking at it.

winter yew
#

Rather than making tracks based off of the music, the game’s visuals play off the beat of the music

brisk merlin
winter yew
#

The tracks are generated by seeds like Minecraft worlds

bleak otter
#

That's kinda cool.

winter yew
#

So I could put in ‘devinup’ and get a track that might be cool :p
