They could have left it as it was and simply remove the colors they didn't want in the palette. Like they did the day sky colors and frozen sky colors. It's easier to do.
Report it and just say for some reason you have a bug and are only getting 2 new colors with the Visions update.

We need to gather all color mods, zip them, send it and say "pick something here for the update". Free palette work, have at it.
Even that frozen sky limitation since AR seems weird to me. I mean I assume they wanted colder color palettes, but just looking at older version screenshots, it was so much more interesting with more sky colors.
Just send them some kind of old fashioned color wheel that artists used in centuries past

Right, blue naturally looks cold to us, but variety (within reason) is king in a game like this. That is the reason to keep moving.

Yeah. I can understand keeping one biome per-planet for gameplay reasons - that actually forces the player to explore (what a novel idea) more planets. But that doesn't mean there can't be more regional variety within the same biome type on a planet

What I'd do to change that is at once simple and extensive, requires reworking a lot of interactions taken for granted, adjusting distribution of some hazards, and balancing out hazards in some different ways for each biome
I'd already laid out some plans for how I'd personally change it, but I hadn't gotten past some work on the scorched biome before Next dropped as I was having some little frustrations on what I'd made being at first too synced up and then not getting the audio effect timing right, etc.
Interestingly enough I think Next ended up introducing some hazard functionality that I'd been after that would better work than what I'd put together, since nothing else existed in the game that worked how I'd wanted
It's honestly stupid simple stuff, the hard part is just about getting it as one wants
Like I could have done what I was doing with the scorched biome without bothering with sound effects, but then it'd just seem like I was being a dick

@uneven bone I know @hearty wasp was working on custom ships same as myself.. difference is I think he'll be releasing his work once it's done.. problem is it's not a mod that's easily updateable.. kinda needs to be made all at once.
adding new ships in an update will likely change the ships that players' seeds generate.. unless the update uses all new files and doesn't append anything..
I also know that @hearty wasp 's had to take some personal time away from NMS.. so there's also that hurdle too..
@uneven bone Hope is not lost! Some of these mods' modders involving assets and ships n stuff are just being hesitant, knowing full well that Vulkan conversion is basically guaranteed and will break everything built around non-vulkan.
Winder's mod adds a bunch of whole-ships, its not like a part diversifier. Still looks like a ton o fun

Are you using fantastic beasts for the flying snakes or you did tweak yourself ? I recognise the bending enable but not the fly. In fantastic beasts i ve enabled the bending but also tweaked the animation to be less shaking and bugy than on vanilla when simply enabled.

basically need to match up each of the in-game resources with the hex codes so I can use them for the web
have the file that Moo pointed me to, just a case of matching up the resource names then extracting the colours and converting to hex... so the screenshot process might actually be quicker I'm thinking
that could be true but turn less accurate, colors in game aren't reproduced exactly much of the time. Its probably not a real issue for pieces of the UI, though
yeah, the accuracy thing is the bit that would drive me mad... even though post probably won't notice π

Experimental MTs must be pretty rare- I'm using "better spaceships" which looks as though it stops class c MTs from spawning, as well as class c spaceships. Nearly 100 stations and ONE class b experimental mt.
It'll come eventually, but dang are they rare.

btw @hushed bronze, in your UI poking about, did you note if any of it involved the light vignetting/scanlines? I think those may have been done elsewhere, like in the shaders in part, but can't recall for sure atm
Vignette can be essentially blown away by graphics globals, and you can find an example of it in the Brighter Sunlight mod@supple wadi
I haven't seen anything good for scanlines yet though
One thing I've been planning to do sometime though, is to get a folder with every file in EXML form within reason, which will let me use notepad++'s very powerful "Search in all open files" feature (been helpful several times now)
With every file open, I can search for scanlines in every file all at once π
Guys, i have found something weird
So, in the original Visions LUSHCOLORPALETTES file, it has all the grass colors
And it's marked as "Inactive"
So i changed that to the amount of listed possibilities
And now im getting some Atlas Rises tier color combos
Is that possible that the color nerf was a mistake?

@desert trellis It was "Inactive" to force another list to be used. The list being used at that point is in basecolorpalettes.
This doesn't make less colors or anything like that, it simply uses a palette that is also used for other things. You activated the list that is used only for that. Using the number of colors in the list as the header number is not good. The palettes are divided into blocks for a reason. It is a little tricky to explain, but for your case you should probably use "All" instead of a number for what you are trying to do.

Well, if you mean disabling those colors, I understand what you're saying. If you mean disabling the list, well.....say you have a list of plant colors that you want to be used in toxic biome and scorched. You can have a main list in basecolorpalettes and then you can have an "Inactive" list in the scorched biome file and the toxic biome file for plants, and so the toxic and scorched biome will use the main (basecolorpalettes) file for the list, so that they will share a color palette. The other option being don't "Inactive" the individual biome palette and have two separate palettes for the biomes. Hope I'm making sense there. @desert trellis

Off the top of my head, there are several "rock" colors in the base palette. ?Maybe 5? There are something like 2 for rock objects right? And then the rocksat,rocklight,rockdark are for land texture right? Can't remember and would have to test it all again. Also, you messed with land rock texture colors right? Did you do a "balanced" custom palette or did you ever try mixing the earlier light colors with the new dark colors? @hushed bronze
All I did with rock, really was some basic testing several months ago, haven't built any palette from them
That said, pretty much every palette is just a list of colors and they all work about the same way
Best way to see the rock colors in play is to find a plateau biome, which gives easy opportunities to see lots of rock at once which is often mixed

when I originally mass-lightened the palette, I just highlighted all the rock palette, and did about 5 replace-alls within selection. 0.4 -> 0.5, then 0.3 -> 0.4, etc
and there you have it, within just a handful of minutes, every rock color went higher by 0.1

my only concern is the mods breaking when beyond comes along
could always just start a new save.. that's the best course of action for a new release anyways.. almost every update they've pushed out has altered/damaged/corrupted players previous save files in one way or another..
but I had a mod called "MorShips" in Atlas that added custom ships to the list of shuttles, fighters, science explorers, haulers and S-Class.. but when NEXT broke the mod, the save files trying to load the custom file paths would CTD.. so I copied the fighter proc and renamed it as each proc file in my mod to create a patch for players to use their old saves.. converting the custom ships from the Atlas mod into Fighters so the players could replace them..
this also made that patch unremovable till players sold off all of their custom ships and reacquired vanilla ships.. otherwise they'd still get CTD as the patch only made the custom ship paths valid for the game to load what looks like fighters..
so in short, a good modder will either update their mod or at least patch it as quick as they can.. I had that patch out within 24hrs of NEXT launching so players could use their old saves if they opted..
and Winder's been pretty good about updating Eucli-ea each rendition of NMS.. even if it is becoming more and more complex..

@devout bobcat That control is easy, but it's in a GLOBALS file so it tends to clash with other mods if you're unlucky.
Without having to make a new one, this one is similar: Just freezes the time of day based on your position on the surface. It will be always night on a planets dark side and always day on the lit side.

its a tough choice, using the mod or not using it. If Beyond releases and there's no change to planet generation, I'd want to keep using the mod but couldn't play Online immersively. If there is a change, I'd have to remove the mod and hope my bases aren't buried underground or floating in the sky... But default planet generation is so boring

@lost comet you'll have to use psarc to decompress the .pak files found in the PCBANKS folder.. personally, I use NMS-Modspace to decompress the original (and build the new) .pak files.. you'll also need mbin compiler to decompile the mbin files to a text format you can edit. At that point, it's a matter of looking thru the file and finding the value(s) set for the items you seek. You can also change the values of hardmodetype so survive/permadeath don't yield a smaller amount than normal mode..
Once finished with your edits, save the .exml file (the text file you'll be editing) and then recompile it with mbin compiler and build your new .pak with nms-modspace (or nms modding station if you'd prefer to use that tool)
I'm sure it sounds intimidating because there's a lot involved there.. but getting the tools and figuring them out is probably harder than making the actual edits..

Those biomes in #nms-photomode-gallery are looking brilliant - I just downloaded your NMS Fantasy mod yesterday, phenomenal!
Unfortunately it's not compatible with 'Fixed Lighting 1.4', superseding the correct lighting on the asteroids in space when paired with 'Black Space'.
I've checked the conflicting files with your modular set, and it's the 'GEN_FANTASY_WORLDS...' file that causes the conflict, however when unpacked it doesn't actually modify the same files as 'Fixed Lighting'!

@lime mesa The experimental has swapped to vulkan, and there's no reason to believe that all versions of NMS beyond will be anything but vulkan-based. So it's a pretty safe bet that NMS will be rocking Vulkan going forward

That's the thing, I'm using NMS-MCD to check for conflicts, but it says there are none between 'True Lighting 1.4' and '_____GEN___FANTASY_WORLDS_by_REDMAS'
However, when I delete the _____GEN___FANTASY_WORLDS_by_REDMAS.pak from my mods folder the issue with the coloured lighting on the asteroids goes away. @lime mesa
True Lighting modifies files in the SHADERS folder, your mod modifies METADATA, MODELS, TEXTUERS and two globals

Which doesn't surprise me, the entire SHADERS folder has been overhauled - what use to be there doesn't exist anymore and there are also a bunch of new shader files.
The API change really did a number on this.

Okay so the old shader files have actually be recompiled using SPIR-V (.SPV) which are Vulkan-specific shader modules.
I just have to find a way to open them, edit them and recompile them

I only have the PS4 version of the game, but I hear that it's possible to extract models from the pc version. Namely the Gek Helmet. I want to have a crack at printing one, Full size if possible

@stable plaza not sure if this will print like you want (or at all).. and you'll probably have to fix the size of the model so it prints as big/small as you want it to..
you may have to export the parts as stl's and import them into whatever you would normally print from
